We drank the Kool-Aid

Ok so we drank the Kool-Aid on this staff and their coaching. At least in their ability to implement their scheme here and prepare the players for winning. It seems like the biggest asset most hang their hats on is recruiting......But in the words of Lee Corso. "Not so fast my friend". Is recruiting that much better? And maybe we should define the recruiting and break it down a little bit.

1. Overall has our class rankings been that much better? Not really considering some of the recruiting rules that have changed. We now get to bring in parents of the kids on paid visits and offer Satellite Camps. These were both seen as huge at the time.

2. West Coast Connection. Right now we have one commitment. With things going the way they are I'm not sure we can keep that one or get anymore. I was always afraid that the hype around Keshawn SR/JR could run its course over time and not sure Riley could remain in contention unless he was winning big.

3. Closing. In spite of all these big name players we are getting here......much more than before....we just aren't closing on them at a rate we should. Again I blame some of that on not winning enough and not enough excitement around our program but I also blame some of it on Riley.....he is a nice guy but just doesn't wow many people and thus is probably going to be an also-ran too many times.

Now on the other hand......I give credit to Riley for hiring Andy Vaughn. Our recruiting program is Excellent. The effort is Excellent. Riley didn't do these things at Oregon State so maybe what we need is to keep Andy. If we get the right WOW coach maybe we can get more of these recruits actually signing. Of course......he still has to win first.

Well I guess my point if that for all our worries about losing the momentum that they have done on recruiting I think it can be better. I think Riley will struggle from here forward because of the losses and the instability. A new coach....especially if we get someone that really excites the recruits.....could utilize the same recruiting plan and be more successful.

I don’t know if “drinking the kol-aid” is the right term.

The situation was that Eichorst hires a new head coach. After saying “who the eff is that” I think most NU fans got in line, supported Riley, and wanted things to be better and found reasons why they could be.

I do recall a lot of people questioning the staff he brought with him.

I’m not sure that’s the same thing as drinking the kool aid. Maybe it is.

I bought into the Tanner Lee hype. I really thought our whole offense was going to be much better. It isn't. We actually miss Armstrong.

You need mobility in college. Armstrong was good for 2 wins that we shouldn’t have won and 2 we shouldn’t have lost. He always kept us in the game.

I still don’t think people realize How much talent we lack. So sick of hearing about the best WR class ever (last year) and we’re 3 deep. Yet, 1 maybe 2 actually will ever be a special teams player in the NFL or a 5th WR for a few years.

The OL........the future All Americans that were all 4 Stars are already RSJRs. Did we out recruit OU or did they know something we didn’t. I’d say the latter.

Not all of us drank the Kool-Aid in December 2014.

Some of us wanted Bo gone in 2013 and thought NU should have gone after a coach deserving of the NU brand and legacy.

We were pooh-poohed on this board.

The Kool-Aid drinking started about 20 years ago. No one ever thought the train would stop rolling, let alone de-rail.
Nothing less than a legendary coach such as Devaney or Osborne is what is needed. Problem is, will that coach ever show up in Lincoln any time soon? I have my doubts.

Its like people forget that we revolutionized the Dual threat QB.

Eichorst tried for Petersen at Boise. Bo was pretty certain he was fired going into that Iowa game. I'm not sure if it was Petersen at the time but it's pretty clear by how it was handled Eichorst thought he had someone lined up and then it blew up in his face.

Similar to "Stevie P" having someone lined up and ending up with "Billy C."

Exactly yet people want a "real" quarterback. Talk of that sure died off quicklyLaughing.

Nebraska has a history of success with dual threat qb's. I agree you can win with any system, but I don't know why we'd go away from something that we were so successful with.

The qb is the most important position and it's stupid to keep switching systems from one that requires a super accurate qb and another that requires a mobile qb. We should have never went away from the mobile qb systems and we wouldn't have sunk as far as we have.

The last statue, I mean real quarterback, that we had was Sam Keller. I think we know how that turned out.

We will be fine with our Pro Style QBs. Lee’s gone after this next year anyway and Gebbia actually has some legs on him and what’s not to say IF Lee keeps struggling Gebbia can’t dethrone Lee next year?? Gebbia is the one I feel is the future for our team. Nice thing about Gebbia he’s already shown he will live on the game room and study, study, study. He should be something special and I for one isn’t ready to get rid of this kid till he’s got a chance to lead our team. Every team out there wanted him that didn’t already have a top 100 QB signed or committed to them.

I like the film study, but just not convinced that the pro-style offense of MR fits us long-term.
