My elbow feels better just knowing that.
I'm not. All it does is drive up the costs of what it's going to cost us for our next coach.
We were always going to have to spend a lot of money to fire and hire coaching staffs. The secondary effect of increasing the cost of coaching for our competitors is a good thing.

the way agents work, Wes was allowed to benefit first due to the deal not going to happen with State. This usually means our deal with whoever we have is now final and we know who we want, but its going to be private so that everyone that was contacted benefits first.

Butch doesn't excite me but i definitely am not gonna be mad if thats the hire.
I hate to say it; I would not be shocked if Selmon just takes the Interim off of Coach Parker.
Butch’s 121 -147 SEC record is pretty mediocre.
Anything is possible if everyone we call says no.
If you're among those who are okay with Butch, I'd be interested to know why. I don't think we'd be overly happy as a fan base if he repeated his performance at Auburn in Starkville, so what makes him a reasonable hire for a program that expects more than what he's done at Auburn?

Bakich added to Super Talks Hotboard … O’Conner, Waz, Bakich … the waiting game thickens .. and will be a tad more prolonged I guess. No clue who we will get honestly, just hope it’s someone who wants to bust his *** and appreciate what they are walking into.
Well if we are a top program who can hire a top coach you’d think it would be easier to win here vs auburn.
Hes done a ton at auburn since he’s been there by auburn baseball standards.
Price of poker goes up every time we do that sort of thing. We think we’re hurting others but we’re also raising the price for ourselves. What is best? Who knows. As long as alumni pay it, it’s all good I suppose
Don’t listen to Super talks, Kendall Rodger’s etc. they don’t know any more than we do. And in some cases may have an agenda throwing names out there. We’ll know who we’re hiring when Selmon tells us.
He never had any momentum. We were never hiring Parker.

I agree with you, but all comes back to the Million Dollar Question; how serious are we about being legitimate in college baseball? I’ve heard the chatter where everyone since Cohen that’s was hired as taken this team to the Highs, even Cann in his brief time, even Henderson when he had the reigns for a short while. But I guess we are about to see how bad we want to succeed in this sport.
I’m expecting something more of a Lemonis hire. Coach at a mid level P4 school nobody really heard of but has had decent success but nothing special.
I bet so as well. I would have been fine with that in football. Baseball, I expect more. And if money is the issue then they need to add seats and sell them. Even if seats aren't filled, who cares, they are paid for. Just set up bleachers until we can do something better. Man it's so sad how behind thinking we are with things compared to ole miss. They just set bleachers up for football until they could make a better expansion. They get it
I’ve posted this before, but compare Butch’s resume to what John Cohen did at Mississippi State. Their winning percentages are almost identical, both overall and SEC. Butch has gone to Omaha twice and one other Super Regional. Cohen went to Omaha once and 2 other Super Regionals. That’s in 8 completed seasons for each of them. Cohen did win an SEC championship. But there’s really not much difference in the 2 resumes. And I don’t see anyone arguing that Cohen wasn’t good enough.
I don’t think Butch is the right coach to hire at State, especially relative to what it would cost to hire him away. But most of this board acts like he’d be the worst candidate ever. He’s actually quite qualified and could do well here. I think he’d be unlikely to get us back to where we were from 2016-2021. But that’s a really freaking high bar and pretty unlikely for any coach.
Cohen took over a much worse program at Mississippi State thsn Butch did at Auburn. Throw out Cohens first 2-3 seasons and rerun your numbers. And even if you don’t do that, how many CWS finals did Butch play in? How many SEC championships did he win?

The point is not “Butch is better than Cohen.” The point is they’re comparable, and Butch deserves a lot more credit than he gets.
And the elephant in the room is that they are/were both roller coasters. Never knew what you’d get each season.

I honestly don't have a strong opinion on Butch. Just wanted to see some arguments. This is a good response.

When we played them in Omaha in 19, most of these folks had no clue 1) they had a baseball team 2) that team made it to Omaha 3) that same team was playing Mississippi State

I feel the same about either Butch or Mingione. Would probably take either, but if money was no object and we could have anybody I wanted, I would back up the Brinks truck to Tim Corbin's house. Make him say no, then drive over the Tony's house in Knoxvegas and make him say no. Then drive to Schloss's house in Austin and tell him we were so sorry we messed up his first deal. But reality is real and none of those are coming to Starkvegas for any amount of money. We'll just have to search the country for some top assistant and hope for the best.
Whoever we hire, we could do worse. And we probably will. The biggest surprise to me would be if we hire Waz or O'Connor. That would be impressive. So I highly doubt it.
I thought Bakich had just gotten a pretty good payday and extension? He was one of my guys i’d hoped on being a candidate. Hope we really surprise me and go balls to the wall for a Great coach and someone who wants to win like crazy
