It’s football, basketball, then

Softball/women’s basketball/soccer/baseball.

It just doesn’t matter. And the fact we have this ridiculous stadium makes things more embarrassing and worse. Stop the Hump renovation and tear it down. Build something similar to what Ole Miss built. Continue to renovate and improve the football stadium. Baseball doesn’t matter, doesn’t bring in money, and no one cares, relatively speaking.

I don’t mind people being all about it now that that basketball is done. The Saturday of the A&M basketball game and the Arizona State baseball game did bother me though.

We could be playing a double-header of USCe women and UK men in the Hump and I'd still be at Dudy Noble watching us play Holmes Junior College in baseball. Sorry. Just the way it is. Always has been and always will be.

You just ranked baseball at msu behind softball, womens bb and soccer.

Shut the 17 up.

I mean the interest in basketball in generally when the season is going on compared to baseball. We started out unbelievably in basketball which earned us a tourney spot. Not much enthusiasm early. We went 1-7 in league to start and basically nothing at all.

We are 0-7 now and it’s like the sky is falling/end of world. It’s spring football time.

The basketball program is digging out of several years of mediocrity and suppressed fan enthusiasm. As the season came down the stretch, there was plenty of excitement around here. Baseball is putting one of the worst teams in the country out on the field two years after winning a natty. The reactions are warranted.

And baseball is big here, in case you haven't noticed. Just because you think it's somewhere below chick hoops doesn't mean everyone else does. It's the one sport we actually have a tradition of winning in.

When some of you come out from under your rocks with these takes I legitimately question your sanity. I mean how long do you sit around stewing in frustration to come up with something this ridiculous? Get a hobby dude, it's obviously time to take a lap.

The "serious problem" you refer to that some of our fans have is that they apparently are idiots like you. There were 13,000 fans at The Dude last Saturday, the day after getting beaten down unmercifully 26-3 by the same team. When was the last time there were 13,000 fans in The Hump?: NEVER, that's right, NEVER, because it only holds 10,000 and some change and even that's more than needed.

When are you and the other thick headed *$#@+ going to realize that there are many people that JUST DON'T GIVE A DAMNATION ABOUT BASKETBALL? There are no rules that just because someone went to school here they have to be a basketball fan and go to games. There are no reasons that say we need to be talking about basketball two weeks after we played the last game of the season. The fans by and large of MSU don't have much of a reason to be a fan of our men's basketball team.

In the last 60 years, (other than '96) we've not played more than 2 games in any NCAA tournament, one or 2 games and DONE! It's been 15 years since we won one! During Howlands reign we finished 11th, 12th, 7th, 6th, 4th, 10th, and 10th. Rick Ray had a .391 winning %. Stans was only .641 but before that its a mixture of .300, .400, and .500, until you get to Babe McCarthy in the 60's, mediocrity at its finest.

Face it we aren't fans of men's basketball because there's seldom been a reason to be. But next December you and your minions will start the "this team deserves better attendance in December" crap all over again when we're playing the Catholic Orphan schools and all the students are gone home for the holidays......

I don’t understand why you and few other guys make post about how much you think baseball does not matter. If you think it does not matter, why talk about it or bring it up. To most of this board, baseball matters and we enjoy watching it and talking about.

Good Lord. You do realize that MSU baseball is the one sport that we've had a history of success on a national level, don't cha? We don't have that in basketball and even though we've had some sporadic success in football over the last 30 years we're not a major player on the national scene. Even said, football will always be king. When the basketball programs consistently start winning, they'll earn their rightful place in the pecking order but until then, MSU baseball > MSU basketball. Baseball is the one sport that MSU fans have been able to stick their chest out about. Seeing it dissipate to the level it is now is tough to watch for some of us that have been following the program for a long time. I'm gonna guess you never spent much time on the diamond but I may be wrong.

Opening weekend of baseball 2024. Our basketball team is currently in the hunt for a second straight NCAA tournament trip and is hosting an SEC opponent at 3 on a Saturday in the newly finsihed Hump. Then there's ours baseball team coming off of back to back last place SEC finishes playing Belmont at 2 in 38 degree weather. I guarantee you baseball will have a higher attendance based off % (the Dude obviously has a higher capacity) and that is a problem that does not exist at any other SEC school outside of the state of Mississippi

The Dude could easily have a higher total attendance, not just "based off %" either.

You could build a 15,000 seat brand new coliseum in Starkville and its not going to matter. People aren't going to attend just to walk around a new building. Look at "The Pavillion" the Confederates tried the "build it and they will come" theory and that worked until the new wore off about 2 seasons later and their team sucked again. They had 6,000 tickets sold at end of Feb this season against ranked TX A&M this year. They had 7,000 against us, 7900 against KY.

Until there have been multiple consecutive winning seasons in Starkville and not just an occasional NIT bid or a "1 and done" NCAA bid, its just not going to matter. There's no past history to speak of (other than '96) and no new history has been made in over two decades. There's going to be a lot of disappointment when the remodel is complete here and the attendance doesn't go up a great deal, or any

Morgan William’s shot vs UConn is more impactful than anything our baseball program has ever done for our university on a national level

I agree with Chicken. They DO need to tear down the Hump, build a parking garage for football and baseball, and then build a 4000 seat gym for basketball in the outskirts of the campus with a gravel parking lot.

I'm betting if you polled 100 students Monday morning and asked them who Morgan Williams is, 90%+ wouldn't have a clue. If you polled recent grads, not much difference. Ask them who won the 2021 NCAA Baseball National Championship and it's 70+%. Only the gamer nerds wouldn't know

Just like many sports, state fans only want to see a winner. Bandwagon fans, like many programs in the country.
