My problem is not our actual hitting, it is the lack of discipline at the plate. Number one would be the fact that we watch entirely too many 3rd strikes go by with the bat sitting on our shoulder. We do this damn near every game. It is to the point that the few fans that are sitting in the chairback are actually yelling at our batters to swing.
Then when it is a 3-0 count, we actually make poor swings at balls that all but one or two guys should be taking.
We are a team that goes to the plate looking for a walk more times than not and it drives me freaking crazy. It is not every batter but it is a lot of them.
That will not improve without serious coaching. These guys have got to be aggressive at the plate and with the exception of one or two, they bat like a bunch of vaginas.
This is my only problem with the team. I have supported them the entire season and of course I still do but there is nothing, nothing more frustrating to watch than a batter striking out with a bat on his shoulder. That falls on coaching and it would be one thing if we saw improvement over the season but we have not. We still are in love with watching strike 3 fly by and then acting pissed off like the ump made a bad call. We should be protecting the plate, attempting to foul off pitches that we cannot handle. Even if it ends in a K, it is a hell of a lot better to go down swinging and at least gives you the chance of hitting the ball, you have zero chance with the bat on your shoulder.
