Wagner wouldn't save this team, but he sure as heck would help. I would've loved to have had him available tonight. He's the most physical of our guards.

He's also the most overrated.
I think he’s the difference maker in the last two games that we’ve lost at home. It is what it is and I can’t change anything but my own health. I’ll follow the CATs but I’m not investing anymore energy into this season.

When Cal first got here we got much better as the season progressed..5 or more years we seem to go the opposite direction…or we just stay the same as other teams improve

Dude Wagner definitely would have made a difference. If we had him tonight, we would have only lost by 7 instead of 11.
IMO the place where Wagner makes the biggest impact tonight if he played would have been his defense.. He is stronger then Dilly or Sheppard. TN little guard Ziegler would not have been as effective and scored 20 with Wagner on him.
I love Sheppard, but a quick physical guard like Ziegler is his biggest weakness.

You are right it’s a Shepherd issue he is a 2 guard not a point guard. Dillingham is a point guard and needs to start if Wagner is out. This is Cal’s grind game memo every year and this team is a sprinter not a plodder.
We need all three of DJ/Rob/Reed to play, and at a high level.
We’ve lost three games with DJ out. I’m betting we would have won 2 of those 3 if he played.
The one time Cal experimented with not playing Reed at South Carolina, we were destroyed.
Rob is a little different, but he can be a problem for any opponent on a given night. He’s our most talented player.
We need all three. And we need them all to be sharp.
