Disagree on pocket passer

I know I'll get eyes rolled at me but he reminds me of a slightly more athletic Bo Wallace (with more arm strength). He's not a pro style statue. He has pocket mobility and can run the spread option. Not a burner but Relf wasn't and Dak isn't really either.

Yes.

Mullen can coach a pocket passer. Just because ONE didn't pan out at MSU doesn't mean all will (odd saying that when he holds practically every QB related record at State). There are probably guys who blocked for TR who could run faster 40's...

If he's mobile inside the pocket, I want him. Ala Alex Smith.

I don't either. Seems like we are after josh white as well, who is another pro style. It's obvious Mullen's system works best with a bigger dual threat QB. Not sure why he doesn't think so.

Hope the Davis kid that transferred from New Hope to S-ville gets a look. S-Miss already offered him a scholly.

Alex Smith ran for 631 yards and 10 TDs his final year at Utah. That's more rushing TDs than Chris Relf ran for in his entire career at MSU.

I'm confused by how we define "pocket passer" and "dual threat" -- because statistically, Alex Smith was about as much of a "dual threat" as there was at the time, Vince Young notwithstanding.

Tiano can run - he's not a burner but he's a good runner. Mullen prefers his QB to be a battering ram anyway that can get 3rd and 2, 4th and 1 on their own. I liked the video - be very curious to hear feedback on him from Big Dawg assuming he makes it

There's always the hope that Mullen learned something from watching Northwestern in the 2013 Gator Bowl.

Just for the record, Tiano is 6'5''/230/4.85 as a 17 year old Jr in HS. Blake "Belldozer" Bell was 6'6"/210/4.76 his RSF year at OU.

I agree he doesn't fit the term "Pocket Passer". I don't know what Bo Wallace's

time in the 40 is but I would guess around 4.8 or 4.9 which is why he is very ineffective trying to run laterally but he does a fine job running north and south when he doesn't end it with a Wallacing*, sorry.

For all the hell he catches on this board, Wallace is a pretty good SEC QB. He was the difference between 7-6 and 3-9 for the Bears in 2012. I'd take a Bo Wallace with more arm strength and without the douchebag personality any day.

Pat I agree, Wallace is a very important piece to the Freeze puzzle and without

him they would struggle. Bo plays hard and is effective playing within what he can do.

And I'm sure a significant amount of those yards didn't come off of designed plays. And that's really my point... He doesn't have to be Manziel, but we just need a guy with the ability to evade the pass rush. Colt McCoy did it. McCarron did it. Luck did it (I can recall him running for like 50 yards on a scramble off the top of my head and he is NOT a dual). Practically any successful QB I can think of did it. The ability to stand in the pocket but rush for the 1st when **** hits the fan was always what was keeping TR from turning the corner. He had the same mobility as Ryan Mallett without the excuse of being a giant.

And Alex Smith hasn't had a designed running play called for him until that pistol this past season where he faked it to a ghost before running in for the TD. Not a dual.

Again, the pocket passer can thrive under Mullen, but he's going to have to have some raw athleticism that TR just didn't possess.
