We successfully gave up more yards than we earned this season

You read that right. Chris Wilson gave up more yards than our so called record setting offense got. We played over half our games against scrubs, bottom feeders.

Changes have to be made

I'm not convinced Mullen will change anything.

Glad he had the balls to can Torbush. Dude was awful. But Wilson is a damn good recruiter and is very integrated into our program. Knowing what we know now, I wish he would have canned him after the Troy game. We sucked then and we still suck now. He needs to make the change and he either needs to find a young SEC position coach that is fiery or he needs to go with a Brewster type guy that failed as a HC but was a damn good position coach. Not saying Chizik, but a person in a position similar to Chizik.

To be honest,it makes me sick hearing Wilson's name. I don't know half of what Mullen knows of running a football team, but my goodness,i know for sure Wilson is no SEC coach and i hope Mullen takes action on this now, once and for all. Wilson is slowing this team down from prospering with his soft play. Thats not Miss,State football...And on the offense side,Mullen needs to take charge of it completly with more creative play calling.Les has four plays and it not getting it.

We also gave up over 30 points in 5 games. We will never be successful giving up 30 points a game to legitimate teams.

If Dan is worth his salt as a head coach

He will get rid of Wilson. We should have NO sacred cows at MSU as far as coaches go. No different than Croom and McCorvey in my book. I don't care how good of a recruiter Wilson is- he obviously sucks as a DC and a d-line coach, even if he is reeling in first round NFL talent- and he's not- then he can't coach it. Let's not make the same mistake Ole Miss made by keeping Tyrone Nix around because he could recruit.

But after LSU, some guy on here tried to tell me how well Wilson was doing.

Even tried to give blown out of proportion stats and such. Engie, what say you?

Spot on, Todd....

I said it a couple of weeks ago and I stand by it: The next few days/weeks are going to tell me a lot about Dan Mullen as a Head Coach. We all see the problems. We all seem to generally agree on what needs to be done to correct the problems. The questions are: Does Dan see the problems? And if Dan sees the problems, what changes will occur to correct the problems?

I think he proved himself early on by canning Torbush after 1 season. I have no reason to think he'd consider Wilson a sacred cow due to recruiting and refuse to fire him, but we're about to find out for sure.

We'll also find out if Mullen is capable of honest self-evaluation. His Special Teams units, minus punt coverage, have sucked for 4 years straight. Will he admit it and give up the post, allowing us to hire someone more capable in that role? And thereby allowing Mullen himself to concentrate on his true passion: offense and playcalling?

But doesn't mullen sign off on these game plans - and isn't it his right as the head coach to say "hey, Chris - if I see a 3 man front one my time tonight don't both getting on the bus". We've been ripping Wilson a new one, but Dan could have made him change defensive strategy at any time. We can't give him a free pass on the defensive side as well.

In theory, yes. But in actuality, most head coaches try to stay out of the way.

Especially when it's on a side of the ball where they have the least expertise. I have no doubt though that he is in full control of what we do offensively. Maybe not in play calling but in the overall scheme of things. The inner OC in him is always going to be there, just the nature of the beast when you make that kind of hire for your head coach. But as for defense, I really think he tries to be hands off because really, it makes most sense. No coordinator wants a dictator. Manny ran his own show here and Wilson has been given same free reign from what I can tell. I agree, it sounds weird that he doesn't intervene when he should but in grand scheme of things, I can see why it works best that way. To me, the best case solution with Mullen from Day 1 has always been find a top notch D coordinator and do what we can to keep him. That's the key ingredient that will make us at our most dangerous as a football team as long as Mullen's head coach because we're going to always have adequate offenses.
