This is based off of the "star talent" we have signed over the years and where they will be starting on the defense next year and the year after.

DE-5star Chris Jones
DE-5star Denico Autry
DT-5star Quay Evans
DT-4star Nick James

OLB-4star Richie Brown/4star Benquez Brown
OLB-4star Matthew Wells
MLB-2star Bernardrick(sp?) McKinney

CB-4star Will Redmond
CB-3star Jamerson Love/3star Cedric Jiles

FS-4star Justin Cox
SS-3star Nikoe Whitley/4star Dee Arrington

Defensive Line-It can't possibly get any better talent wise
Line Backers-Got several four stars and McKinney obviously is way better than a two star
Defensive Backs-Got several four stars and three stars that are good players

So the good news is we have elite to upper level talent on defense at the starting positions.
So the bad news is we don't have a lot of depth with highly rated talent.

I think it's just interesting. I'm not really trying to make any particular point other than we do, according to the recruiting sites, have elite talent at every position on defense according to their high school evaluation. We obviously don't have the depth that Alabama and LSU have, but as far as the one deep goes, we are probably right there with them. This was a convo I had with a buddy last night and it was pretty impressive. We have come a long way. We have recruited in the top 25 4 outta the last 5 years, we have good player development, it took Spurrier 5 or 6 years to get S. Carolina where they are today....so maybe I am making a point. Here it is...stay positive, give Dan a little more time, and let's be happy where we are and hope we can build an even better class next year. We're certainly going in the right direction. I'm not saying we will get LSU and Bama's level, but we may not be as far off as we think...on the defensive side of the ball at least. I haven't looked at the offense. Someone else can do that.

What say ye....?

Star ratings are very hit or miss. Lots of 4 & 5 * recruits turn out to not be that great, and several 2* recruits turn out to be All-Americans. One thing every one of those players has in common is that they haven't done anything much yet. Hope they will turn out to be great, but the odds are at least several of them will be busts.

I'll say not having Dwayne Cherrington be the weak link on the D-line will be among the greater positives.

We know Autry and McKinney are good, and Cox is probably going to be real good. The rest are unproven and question marks.

As Patdog said, the majority of those players are unproven

Secondary is taking a huge hit. As much as I love Nickoe, he has to either find his form again or suffer riding the pine.
I think it will start out something like Love, Cox, Jackson/Arrington and Calhoun. Sorry to hurt anyone's feelings but Redmond probably will not be starting when the season starts. Maybe by season's end though

Like I said last night, our Dline will be vastly improved (especially with someone guiding them that knows how to coach). We have a wealth of talent there.

LBs are questionable. However, I am excited to see what them Brown Boyz can do. McKinney has a year of experience under his belt, so we'll see if he continues to get better. Skinner, Wells and Chris Hughes getting in there can only be a good thing. We've got talent and I like Coach Collins.

It's exciting that we've got some new life on defense. I just hope we are more productive. I'd like to see more aggression from our D next season

Defensive Line is going to be stacked.

All the points that Ballski hit on are what has kept me sane during recruiting season. After being in the cellar for years without any real hope, energy or direction, MSU has had three straight winning seasons (leading to three straight bowl appearances) and has a terrific little pool of talent that is accumulating up there in Starkville, MS. Our recruiting is getting increasingly better with time. We are on the verge of signing yet another top 25 class. We expect to make it to a bowl because we believe in our coaches abilities to develop the talent we sing, and the talent is only getting better.

We have to stay positive, guys. We know that David Turner is a good coach and the spring game will be here soon enough, so we'll actually get to see a sample of the product we intend to put on the field. I'm excited! Why does no one share these same feelings of positivity? It's all dark clouds and black cats. Get a grip, people. We've got a university to support!
