I've just always used the term "we" when talking about BBN / UK hoops, because I have followed them closely ever since I could remember, from 1974 - 1975 and onward. Force of habit? But for those of "us" on this board, I assume "we" are true blue, so I keep in in the context of that.

I generally don’t use “we” when referring to Kentucky basketball because I’m not on the team or a coach or anything. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I mean, I get it. It’s the team WE take pride in so I don’t think it’s totally ridiculous to say “we” need to sign this recruit or “we” need to defend the pick & roll better or whatever. But I feel like some people are a bit to serious about what “we” actually have to do with the program. It becomes “I've had it. WE need to get rid of Barbee” or whatever, as if WE actually have a say in anything.

In general the only time I call the team “we” is when differentiating in the same post between Kentucky and another team. “They have good guards but ours should be able to handle them” kind of thing.
You are a smart person. The worst is when PARENTS say we have a game or match.. no you don't, you drive, you watch, you cheer.. but they play, they get injured, they lose, they get benched, they win.

You people are stressing over this way too much Do what makes you happy. Tell anyone who cares to sod right off.
Right on. It's a matter of preference. I remember Larry Munson, the most hommer of hommers, using we in his broadcasts of the Georgia games. "We're hunkered down on the 30 yard line......." He was hoot to listen to.

I can hear him say that! I love HDTV, and having all the games is awesome. But damn, something about the radio calls made it so much more dramatic.

You can’t possibly tell me it matters.

And the parents are one of the biggest factors of their kids athletic success. They can say we as much as they want. They are a part of the team.

Now little league dads, ok I’m with you.

Then you fall into the category when the kid has a bad game, " we turned the ball over too much".." we struck out too much ".. no they never say it like that.. all of a sudden it turns into, " you struck out too much", and the " we " goes out the window. It's parents trying to live out what they couldn't do thru their kids lives, it's a freaking joke. I coach for a living and see it every day.

I use “we”. I get irritated at the people that graduated from UK saying they are the only ones that can use “we”
It’s real simple. When the University can fully function and support the “team” without any money or interest from fans, then they have the right to say we.

However, as long as they depend on fans watching on tv, or spending their hard earned money on tickets, then I will continue to saw “we”.

In fact, everyone involved in College sports benefits.
Coaches get paid, the players get tuition paid. They get free room and board, stipend money each month. They also get all of their medical paid for. Travel paid for. Trainers paid for.

The NCAA benefits immensely.

All that being said, none of this would exist if it weren’t for the fans. In fact, the only ones not benefiting monetarily is THE FANS. You better bet your *** that WE have the right to say WE.

I guess that explains why colleges that have sports and teams that barely draw any spectators at all still field teams. NOT!!!!!

The team is fielded by the university. They field them whether you show up or not. They get scholarships whether you show up or not. They have medical care, trainers, travel, etc whether you show up or not. Most teams are not UK basketball, but the are still there. They are WE the team.

We, the fans, bring big business into the mix. We flood the process with money. We are not part of WE the team. At our worst we commercialize, corrupt, motivate cheating and bring disruptions into sports.

I’ll make this very very simple. They compete or directly support the effort. We observe or cheer. If all you ever do is watch, buy clothes or throw money over the wall, you are ‘we the fans’. Now, go sulk, cry, beat your chest, tear out your hair or whatever childish outrage you choose to express. But in the end you are no more and no less than a fan.

I respect you. In all honesty, none of this matters much. I guess it’s just entertainment. I still choose to spend a lot of money on UK sports because it’s still entertaining to me.

If I wake up one morning and decide it’s not entertaining or important any longer, then I’ll find something else to spend my money on.

I’m not hardcore any longer. I’m just going to enjoy it and hope for the best.

Never gave it any thought. I’m an old country redneck, and my country drawl would surely amuse some on here, but I don’t recall anyone ever being confused which team i was referring to whatever words i used when talking about “us “. Discussion like this is what makes “us” the greatest fan base of all, and it’s not close. “We’re” all crazy. Lastly, daughter and i watched 2012 championship together at home, and at the buzzer we both hugged and yelled “we did it “. So there’s that.
