Delirium, like antidepressants, in the backwoods of Cleveland County is commonplace, it seems. Either that or ole Shelby Lion is a masochist. To each their own, though, I guess.

You know something, was sitting here thinking, Reading some of the responses to the prodigal son, and thought, well, darn, these guys are taking pokes at our team, but they weren’t, they were only sparring with the Prodigal Son, and even if they were, it’s all in fun and doesn’t matter.
It bothers me to say it, but we have lost so many games over the past several years, I’ve forgotten how to win. Coach Byrd, got us back to breaking even, and coach Angle has got us back to winning some, and after last night’s game, I must have started thinking we could maybe get beyond the second round, maybe. Most people called that being starry-eyed.
I’ve learned to absorb losses, but never got used to it…If we keep winning, I’ll have to learn how to be a gracious winner, to avoid falling so far when we do lose, or either some of these guys will remind me of it.

I haven’t said a thing post game until now. I am still dumbfounded. Burns simply unraveled. The team is young and I try to be careful with what I say because I know kids read this stuff. Our Dogs will be fine- continue to learn and grow, better times will come. It is difficult to endure struggle after many years of success. We need to find some heart- a gut check. Some players need to step up and lead. In this game we simply beat ourselves. So- we need heart and we need consistant leadership coming from within the team. Who’s it gonna be? I wish continued success to Linc. and welcome good competition in our new conference flawed as it still is.
Hopefully Burns can find their footing and play a clean game and see what happens. It seems every game they turn it over and put themselves in a bad spot. Team seems to be full of athletes so who do you think can step up for them and be the leader??
Turnovers absolutely killed us last week. The INT in the first half stalled the momentum we had.
The 3 in the second half put our defense on the field too much and we had no gas left. 3 INTs and 1 fumble will end your season quick if something doesn’t change. If Burns plays a complete game and takes care of the ball they can beat anyone in 4A. The players are there.
Simply beat yourselves? I’d say the Wolves speed and pressure on the QB had something to do with that. Wasn’t like the QB had time and had open receivers and just missed them. But I get where you’re coming from. I thought we were really even with Maiden week one but we lost the turnover battle and lost the game. Good luck to Burns the rest of the way. A Burns vs. Maiden or Bandys or N-C matchup down the road would be intriguing.

You’ve beaten Highand Tech and West Lincoln and you want to come on here and pound your chests? My how the “mighty” have fallen.
As far as Coach C doing some coaching in Vale…well, let’s just say that sometimes the older alpha, after enduring the tides of time, ends up losing his firm grasp on being the leader of the pack, and will lose his control to a younger, up-and-coming alpha. In most of those cases, the older alpha yields (either voluntarily or by force) his title and “enjoys retirement” on the outskirts of the community as a lesser (but useful) subordinate member of the pack. Other times, the older alpha decides it best to just leave the pack altogether and pursue other ventures. Coach has chosen (some would say due to persuasion from the new, younger alpha) the latter and has found a home with a team that values his knowledge and experience leading young pups more than our new staff does. The news was quite the surprise to many.

Besides beating Highland and WL we also have 18 State Championships that helps us come on here and pound our chest. As for the Lincolnton game in 4 weeks it should be a great one. I care almost as much about the newest addition to the fried food menu at the Cleveland County fair as I do the score of a Shelby versus Cherryville football game. After all, if you can’t beat little old Cherryville, you got more problems to worry about than a shifty little quarterback from Lincolnton.
I’m glad to hear you could interrupt your regularly scheduled binge fest of Brooklyn Nine-Nine to do a little research on a team you won’t see for another couple weeks. This might fly right over top of that pimple on your neck most people in your area call a noggin’, but I think you need to say “no need to” one more time.
