It’s still early on this Thursday night, but Meadowbrook is destroying Hopewell. I’m not surprised, but it feels strange to say that Meadowbrook is “destroying” an opponent after years and years of extreme mediocrity. It sure makes every upcoming game Meadowbrook plays an instant “must see!”

More to come as the week plays out. I’m looking forward to hearing what made YOU say, WOW!

Watch this game last night and Meadowbrook is very improved. Their young qb is just a sophomore but is very good. There motivation was 💯 all night. Hopewell looked like they were just going through the motions very little motivation and looking like they did not care. Hopewell has alot of talented players but sometime the coaching at times is suspected. From my observation the last two games looks like they've lost the team. The way they played last night they might win one more game if lucky 2-8 would be my prediction. Meadowbrook is 4-0 but I don't believe they can beat the district big boys dinwiddie, Thomas Dale yet.

The same could be said about Prince George.
They are 10 times the team they were a few years ago, but I think they still me be slightly behind the very best in the district. But only a foolish team would not be prepared for a supreme effort from both Meadowbrook or PG. Thats how you elevate your status, go out and put a surprise beating on the top teams.

Alexandria City 5-0 for the first time since 1990 after beating Woodson with a late field goal. Granted one of those was a forfeit win of a game they lost by 32 points but they'll take it.

Park View beat Annandale 12-11, that would be a scorigami in the NFL.

Millbrook beating Kettle Run surprised me. I don't think any of the Winchester area teams are particularly outstanding, but with Region D looking very weak this year I could see one of them give Jefferson Forest (who I think is the best team in the region) a game. Handley doesn't play until tomorrow but they've looked much better than I thought they would with their QB out. Sherando needs to start putting away inferior teams. They were much better than Loudoun County and lost due to not capitalizing on opportunities, and only put up 28 points tonight against a bad Brentsville team.

That surprised me too. I have seen Strasburg, Kettle Run and Handley this year, and while there are really good players on all of those teams, the one that really stood out is Will Yoder of Handley. Great route running, gets up for the ball, contorts his body to get his feet inbounds when making catches. Here is a link to his hudl, check out the 4 game tape.

Ouch Midlothian. Looks like Huguenot had a point to prove and this showed Midlothian will most likely be 1 and done when they play an athletic team in the playoffs.

Greetings from afar in Phnom Penh, Cambodia!

One thing that caught my eye is that it’s nice to see some of the most competitive and most balanced football in Virginia being played in the Fredericksburg area.

Eleven out of fifteen schools across the Battlefield and Commonwealth Districts can beat just about anyone at anytime on their schedules. Both districts are wide open for the taking.

The excitement will eventually fall victim to early round playoff exits. But it’s nice to see good quality football and the close games which come with that being played at several schools across the area.

Who are your 4 that can’t hang? With apologies to those teams/coaches/players, I’m gonna try to guess.

Chancellor
Culpeper
Eastern View
King George

Commonwealth seems pretty deep, but there’s tiers for sure.

I’m not going to get into a back and forth on that. Naming specific schools across the two districts is irrelevant to the point that I’m making which is actually overwhelmingly positive for the area.

Just about the wildest week this season, I would say.

I expected Kings Fork to give Oscar Smith a little tougher game than they did. The first half was pretty close, but Smith played like future state champions in the second half.

I sipped the Midlothian Koolade like many were doing, but Huguenot proved they are not ready for prime time.

Great to see Monacan finally get a win.

Poor Colonial Heights. Petersburg probably took away their last chance to win a second game this year. They might have a shot at beating King William in their last game of the season, but it will have to be motivated by pride. Win or lose, they are not making the playoffs this year.

Poquoson beating Lafayette certainly is noteworthy. But truthfully, the Islanders are a darn good team. Beating Lafayette was their third marquee win this season. And like Coach Young and Matt Hatfield said on their radio show this morning, Poquoson holding the high scoring Lafayette team to only 7 points is the bigger story.

Staying with the Bay Rivers District, Jamestown got a second win on Friday. Unfortunately for Jamestown, that might be their last win this season. There may be one more win left, but that’s iffy.

GW beating Lord Botetourt surprised me. But LB has a tendency to loose the occasional game that they shouldn’t. So I guess this was their one for this year. But, GW ain’t no slouch, so I’m sure they earned the win.

James Monroe beating Eastern View would have shocked me —— in years past.

Loudoun Valley and Loudoun County both winning has set up a mega game in two weeks.

Another game that will get a lot of attention this coming week is Thomas Dale at Meadowbrook, both undefeated. TD’s self proclaimed “Dark Zone” defense has only given up 22 points. But, the Monarch’s are right there with them, only giving up 27 points. At first I was thinking this could be a Meadowbrook win, but when I look at the teams that these two schools have beaten to get to this point, the nod has to go to Dale.

60-69 points was popular this week. I counted at least 13 teams in that bracket. Of course, there were a couple in the 70’s, Maury being the highest at 77 points.

The GMen at Graham absorbing another loss caught my eye.

How about this one? The last time Windsor started their season 4-1 or better, Nixon was President, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin left footprints on the moon, Woodstock happened, crazy Charles Manson went on his murderous spree, the Civil Rights Movement was changing America, the Viet Nam war was raging, and The Beatles performed their last public concert as the complete Beatles. The year, 1969.

This one certainly got my attention, Warwick just beat Phoebus.

Oh. I agree that the teams in the Fburg area are fairly strong this year. Was just curious since you made such a specific numeric reference. Enjoy your time in Asia.

What got me was Louisa had the ball on offense for only 3 and a half mins in the whole first half but led 42-0. At half and hiter only had 3 carries all game for 21 yds.
That's is crazy and it sounds odd but it shows how dominate the Lions defense and special teams can be.

We had something similar. We kicked a field goal to start the quarter. Matoaca takes kickoff. Two no gain plays, pick six Dinwiddie. Kickoff Matoaca got the ball on 20. Made a first down (3 plays), next three plays backwards they went, plus a 15 yard penalty. We roughed the punter. Five plays and backwards they went, 20 yard punt. Two plays 41 yard touchdown pass. Kickoff is a touchback. 3 plays loss of 10. Blocked punt safety. Matoaca onside kick. They recover. 3 plays and a punt. End of half. We had the ball for 32 seconds and Matoaca had it for 11:28. Crazy!
