Nutt said Masoli also understands he can't make anymore mistakes off the field. "I felt like he needed us a whole lot more than we needed him," Nutt said. "He'll be under the highest of scrutiny."

I don't blame Ole Miss for taking a chance on him one bit. But that quote right there is 17-ing hilarious. Looks like Nutt is planting seeds for his own Blind Side...

and for those that say State was never interested - no one said that wasn't the case. There was contact but decided not to pursue.

it makes my head hurt. If that was the case then OM would never have taken him.

I just want to see what kind of meltdown the Rebs will have if he is brought up on probation violation and forced to jail or house arrest in Oregon.

I bet Nutt has already talked to the Oxford PD cheif and a$ked that Masoli be put on the untouchable list.

Edit to Add: Heard my first Masoli joke today, and actually from a UM fan. Masoli is going to get to live rent this season ... in Stanley's head.

'Who' is paying for all this? Is the Masoli family that wealthy? First, he hires one of the most expensive PR firms in the country and then he passes up a 'full ride' at a couple of schoolsand shells out $25K+ to walk-on at $$!+. That's some serious coin. Who is footin' the bill for all this?Does someone think he has NFL possibilities?

From Bryant ... former Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli has retained the Los Angeles-based firm Sitrick And Company, which bills itself as “one of the top strategic communications firms in the United States.”

What coachspeak line(s) are the most irritating to you personally?

When a coach (like Harbaugh y'day) says "we're excited about........................................................

Usually its something he's secretly cursing about but just can't say it.

he will take a below average offense and make it average. The OM defense if going to be stout so he could make a difference in one, maybe two games. The WAPT sports genius said tonight that UM is now #2 in the West, I still say they will be our ***** and I firmly believe that.

Let's see.

Option 1: Go out and try to get a $40K a year job.
Option 2: Try to find somewhere to play this fall so that you get one last audition to go work for someone whose minimum salary is near $300K right out of school, with a possibility for a lot more than that.

Is it really that hard to understand what his motivation would be in trying to play another year of football?

And I'm sure you do hope it bites us in the butt on this, because you sure don't want it to help us win, which is what this, and every move, is all about.

I felt like he needed us a whole lot more than we needed him
If Jackie had said this about some lowlife thug he had just allowed to transfer to MSU from Oregon, the University of Mississippi would subpoena Sherrill to appear in federal court.

I've heard coaches speak out of their *** before, but this "I felt like he needed us a whole lot more than we needed him" is one for the ages.

While I think it's generousof Nutt to use Masoli to conduct a social experiment so liberal it would make the late Ted Kennedy blush, on the other hand, Iwonder who is going to bail Masoli out ofLafayette County lockup one hour before the Auburn game.

That quote was actually ripped off of Gene Stallings. He said that same exact thing about David Palmer.

Urban Meyer uses that reasoning all the time in trying to avoid kicking players off his team. I can't remember the player, but I think it was at Utah where he said he had a quick reaction and kicked a guy off for an off field mistake. Then a year or two later he found out that player had fallen back in with the wrong crowd and ended up dead at a young age. Ever since then, Meyer has been very hesitant to kick a guy to the curb for discipline issues in most cases.

Knowing Lawrence Phillips and what he did after Nebraska, it's safe to say Osbourne was right about him. Obviously, even football wasn't enough to get him on the right track, but it was his only shot at getting on the right path in life. There are a lot of players out there like that, which is why coaches often have a gray area. Not everyone can be as fortunate to grow up in a suburban neighborhood with parents that can afford good schools.

Obviously part of the reason Osborne wanted to keep Phillips was his talent, but I don't doubt that trying to give him an outlet to get him to a better life might have been part of his reasoning too.
