I’ve seen people numerous times tell you that Chris Beard couldn’t win here. They put the guy down with no consideration of the difference in resources coaching at Texas Tech and here at UK. It’s totally different and it matters. One of the first things Cal said when he took this job was they he could do things here that he couldn’t at the other schools he coached at. You would think our fans wouldn’t under value the Kentucky brand like that. I don’t understand how they don’t see that at any blue blood program you have an advantage.

100%. Beard would be an excellent hire. One of the most proven hires we’ve hired. These fans that say that don’t understand college basketball. Beards trajectory is as high as anyone. The UK brand with Beard could be a match like no other currently in college basketball.

Of course he doesn't. @kybassfan, still think he cares as much about winning as he does "changing family lives" with NBA successes?

Yes, I agree that a basketball team losing is not a national disaster. You are equating the loss to a cat 5 hurricane? A richter 8 earthquake? You don’t agree with Cal you must think the loss is worse. That’s what he said. He didn’t say anything about the NBA so that’s just you with the butthurt.

It wasn't great, but there were signs of life. Better passing, there was hunger that I don't think I've seen yet. Only 4 turnovers. 4-10 made 3s. I think they learned today the value of getting Sarr touches. I don't know why it's taken 5 games. I thought it was obvious. It should have been to him. He's not totally wrong about the 1st half. Boston, and he did a little in the 2nd half as well, but he was searching for his. I would never say it was 1 player's fault, but maybe Cal feels Boston can take it and raise his game. I don't know. My hope is we will see carry over to the next game. I've said in the past, maybe not to you, but Im giving this team 10 games to become a more cohesive unit. They need time to play together. Unlike other seasons the talent and length and athleticism just aren't enough to overcome all the deficiencies at the beginning of the season especially the experience void.
If this things come competely undone, I'm talking losing season and no tourney bid, how does it go for Cal?
IMO, his recent comments sound like someone who is a little upset anyone would dare question him. If so, that mentality at UK usually does not end well.
That quote today was enough for me personally. Every game matters at UK. That's why it's UK.

Beard is my pick. Winning at TT is no small feat. Speaks of his ability and motivation. I think he would be a home run hire.

Have you noticed certain posters always point out that he lost 13 games last year but never mention his accomplishments at a program that is historically bad? Makes no sense, I think most of them aren’t very knowledgeable about what he has accomplished in his career.

I notice. Some have even said they want Beard to have accomplishments that nobody has ever had to take on UK. One in particular thinks he should literally out perform Cal at Kentucky and beat Kansas at Texas friggin Tech to get the job.

When you have a narrative, this is how stupid you end up sounding. You make no sense at all.

Why would any coach on earth care about the fans reactions? Are you one of the parents who has a kid playing ball and yells "shoot it" every time they get it anywhere on the floor? lol. A good coach could care less about the fans knee jerk reactions. He's way above that.
You must be kybassfan’s bastard son. Right?

Aww, have we seen this movie before or what? And just like that, Cal has fell victim to the ole “I’m bigger than the University or it’s fan base!” shark jump!

Sutton did it, Pitino was a season or two away from doing it, Tubby did it, BCG definitely did it, and now Cal. SMDH

That moment when you know, it’s the beginning of the end. Thanks Cal, it’s been great.

I kind of think about UK basketball and Alabama football being on the same level of fans passion and dedication. Can you imagine Nick Saban saying something like that??!! I can’t. What is Cal thinking??!! Oh that’s right the greatest day in UK b-ball history is NBA draft night.
Of course Saban wouldn’t be losing multiple games in a row and looking clueless doing it.

I think he has always said the same thing which is he does not listen to the negative or the positive comments so not sure he was saying anything different. However he must figure out a way of limiting the number of Freshmen he has to recruit each year.

The thing I don't like about Beard was him saying how much he liked the decade serving as an assistant to Bobby Knight and Pat Knight. That's a bit of a red flag for me.

Why?

We overplay Knight. He's just a hard nosed ******* basketball coach. He'd be loved by everyone he coaches for, and hated by the rest. He was a winner.

Beard coaches in 2020, and he's got a great reputation.

He'll get another year. UNC is on UK's level and they were 14-19 last season. If they then have another poor start and consequent bad season he will leave(Im just gonna go with the word leave here). A Coach with the success he's had here for 11 seasons isn't and shouldn't be run off after 1 poor season.

Im not worried about his quote. You're free to take from it whatever you want. Sounds like a coach trying to lessen the pressure on his players. He shouldn't have brought it up honestly. We don't need to hear what he's telling these guys behind closed doors so that they don't feel the pressure of losing from the fans. In a way, and Im not trying to be political here, but in a way he's like Donald Trump and that's I believe he likes to hear the sound of his own voice. Cal just doesn't tweet 50 texts a day.

I can believe that. Why would Calipari pay attention to fans. We are not millionaires and we are the reason for generational poverty. Who are we? Nothing to him. He "don't pay attention."
No but, he paid attention to the SJW bs that was floating around and got involved. Focus is in the wrong place. He has thrown the fans under the bus.

So this is the I hate Cal and want him fired thread. I love seeing so many grown dudes whine and cry. It's like working a middle school dance and listening to kids talk about who's doing and saying what. hahahahah
So you are a trolling UL fan who really has no team to root for, you just like coaches and are like groupies who follow singers to their hotel rooms to be used.

Sounds like the kool-aid we drink on the recruiting every year. I think Few would help but we want bigger, has to be younger than 50, has to be a guy of the people, and most important part of the people, Cal has separated himself and its not a good look.

4 games. 4 games where your team looked like garbage. STFU. Tubby didn’t lose 4 games in a row. I think the only coach who ever did was Bill G. Congrats Cal.
Actually, Calipari was the last coach who did it (2018). Now he's done it twice. Did BCG even lose 4 in a row twice?? Has any UK coach lost 4 in a row twice (either in the same season, or during their time at UK)? Before Calipari, BCG lost 4 in a row in 2008-2009. I think it also happened in the mid-80s - probably end of Joe B's days before Sutton came on in 1985-86. Would be hard not to imagine Sutton having not lost 4 in a row during his short, scandal-ridden stint before Pitino came in.

Thanks. When certain posters criticize me, I know I'm on the right track. You are one of those.
You just called yourself a troll. That is the definition of "troll" that you just spewed. You get a kick out of irritating people and getting a reaction = troll. Like that bass fan and that baller cal clown. They love it when people get agitated, especially agitated by their presence and postings.

Start around the 12 minute mark.

Thanks for posting that.

Eh, I'm not going to attack him for saying what he said. Essentially all it means is he's blocking the outside noise, which is what he should do. He can't get into what we have to say, I get that.

But, how long is he going to pound his head against the wall to pad his NBA draft numbers? This looks exhausting.

Just keep in mind, it will take years for him to stop this train and move in a different direction. He can't change the state of this program on a dime, you pumpers need to understand that. It will take years to change it and that’s if he decides to change it, which I doubt he'll do.

Actually Saban "gets it". He constantly says stuff like "big win for our fans". Every time Bama beats Auburn he talks about it being a big win because of the rivalry.
I know some of that stuff is coach speak but, he does seem to understand that the fans matter. Fans are the life blood of the program. They drive the interest, whether that be in merch sales or TV rating. Yes, fans do matter.

Have to agree. Did not think what he said was that bad. I did not take it trashing the fans. I still don’t like Cal. LOL

I was very high on Beard last year at this time and I still am but, to a lesser degree. His team just wasn't very impressive when UK played them on their Home floor. They may have been too-hyped to play us or just inexperienced at that time. Not sure. Of course, that was one game and Beard seems to have his squad playing well this year. So, we will see what happens.

IMO, Brad Underwood might be worth watching as well. I like how he has built his current team. And I wonder who that familiar face is on his bench that might have had a hand in talent evaluation?

i will share and I am friends with each family, so maybe I have some bias, but CJ Frederick/Sean NcNeil and Adam Kunkel all three could easily play for us. I do know for a fact he never recruited the first two and told Kunkel he could come but he probably would not play. Look at other teams and you absolutely have to have these kind of players. This has been his downfall and his eminent demise imo.
This has been a concern for me for quite a while. He seems to have some issue with basketball players from Kentucky. It is really astonishing to me since there have been a few that could have easily played for us and WANTED TO PLAY FOR KENTUCKY!! They are the ones that probably would have stayed more than one year even IF they could go on, because they would love the name on the front of the jersey. Most kids who grow up in Kentucky and play the game, have probably dreamed of playing for Kentucky. I think it would be good for the player, good for the team, good for the University and good for the fans. A win-win situation. So I really don't understand his reluctance, no, his downright refusing to even consider it. It's a problem that could easily be fixed. Maybe I am oversimplifying it but the issue has become obvious over the years. Thanks for listening. I would like to know what others think.

Cal can be his own worst enemy. Whether it's his stubbornness on the floor, recruiting or in saying stupid stuff like this. Everything is magnified when you're the Head Coach at UK. He just doesn't do himself any favors. Cal should have probably left after the 2014 season and by all reports it nearly happened. But, the twins returning kept him in Lex.

The truth is he holds all the cards on when and how he will leave. The contract Barnhart has given him puts all that power into Cal's hands. Whether that is good or bad probably depends on your point of view. Personally, I thought it was a terrible idea at the time and even more so now. Everyone answers to someone. Cal should be no different but, I can't see Mitch Barnhart holding much sway over Calipari. In fact, I could see MB bailing for another job rather than having to deal with a failing John Calipari who is holding a nearly interminable long term contract.

No, the only way Calipari will ever leave UK is on his own terms. No amount of fan pressure or unhappiness will affect that. Of course, he might just decide that it isn't worth the trouble and just walk away. But, he is very stubborn and cares deeply about his legacy.
