Kudos to whomever does win that- lots of stiff competition.
QB's- I thought both played poorly tonight. Granted, they had no protection. I don't know why he pulled Relf other than he wanted to try to get a better passer (debatable at this point) in the game. Maybe it's just me, but I thought Relf maybe tried to win the game by himself and was maybe a little selfish at times- not pitching the ball on the option. Maybe it wasn't there, and maybe it was because he .005 of a second to make a play. I'm probably reading too much into that.
O-line- Horrible. OK- yeah we are playing three freshmen or so and have had some injuries. I get that. I also get that is really good. And not to go all Bradley Sowell on Blaine Clausell because I know that he will get better- but he looks awful right now. But, if I had to say that one unit lost us this game, it would be the o-line.
Skill guys- Also bad but again, this is an extension of poor o-line play.
Defense- Played a lot better. I wish we wouldn't play so soft in the secondary and apply more pressure but this was an acceptable outing overall.
Special teams- Acceptable overall except for the weekly theme of wishing our kickoffs were deeper. But again, solid.
Coaching- I thought the play calling was boring and predictable. Bringing in Russell was questionable, as was not using a time out, as was not trying to score to end the half and conceding the game was disappointing at the end.
The officiating was ridiculous. Ticky tack personal foul call on Wade Bonner and then later, no pass interference when a guy for LSU runs up our WR back. Also- please tell me I'm mistaken- but did we really get penalized for having too many players on the field when Cox tripped, fell down, and GOT HURT after he fell? Common sense tells me if I'm an official to stop the play and allow them to get the HURT player off of the field- not throw a flag. Maybe they called it "correctly", and if that's the case, the NCAA probably needs to look at that. What made me mad about the whole thing was it appeared to me that we were being penalized because a guy got hurt and couldn't come off of the field legitimately. I just feel like if someone for LSU had tripped and gotten hurt, they probably would have stopped the game for a second for an officials timeout.
