Three things I thought were funny and/interesting.

1) Thinks D Smith is the quickest and fastest guard he has ever had at state

2) Said Rodney Hood is the best freshman he has ever coached

3) He absolutely hates Coach Cal. He calls him God. A direct quote when talking about God and basketball doing away with divisions. "God doesn't want to just be on top of 6 teams in the east, he wants to be on top of all 12 teams."

He thinks we will be pretty good and says no matter what happens with big Shug, we will be good either way.

Is there something wrong with wanting to be on top of all the teams in the SEC or am I supposed to just be happy about being on top of 5 of them? I mean, I need to know so I can set my expectations for the upcoming season.

In all seriousness, are we going to have to listen to that uneducated hillbilly ***** non-stop this year about his precious divisions going away? I honestly didn't care if they kept them or did away with them, but the object is still should be the same. Win as many games as possible to get a good seed in the NCAA and finish as high as possible. Why this man needs to fill validated by being patted on the back for being the least shittiest of 6 SEC West teams is beyond me.

Ok..I got that off my chest.

I don't mind going to the current format. I just didn't realize how much he disliked Cal. He was pretty damn funny talking about him. He also said that he wants Kentucky to be a permanent two game series every year. He did say that the only four kids he brought on campus he got commitments from and that the kid from Houston will be the best guard to ever come through MSU.

Don't shoot the messanger

It would be nice to have them in the Hump every season and even if we go 0-2 against them it really won't hurt our RPI.

Here are some of them:

"If you want to know how not to spend Christmas in Hawaii, ask me."

"Ole Miss was tired of us winning, that's why they voted (to disband divisions)."

"B Bryant was the biggest winner from our trip to Europe. You'll see a lot from him this year. He's a leader."

"Rodney Hood may be the best freshman we've ever had. He's a great person, student and athlete. He will start as a freshman"

"you all want to hear about Sidney. We'll get to Sug, believe me"

"When we left campus today he (Sidney) was in good shape"

"Toughest thing for Sidney was learning discipline. Basketball is easy. His attitude is much better."

"We've got a great schedule this year. Whoever made that schedule last year with 5 games back-to-back is stupid"

"Cal has 4 of the top 5 players. He's going to coach them up to the NBA this year. (laughter) You guys are drinking that Kool-Aid too huh?"

"Our AD's doing a great job. You guys aren't taking out ads in the Clarion Ledger"

Asked about Twitter: "Do you really think that's me on Twitter? You know I'm not too fond of it (Twitter)"

Asked about no divisions: "You know god (Cal) was the chair of that committee. He gets his way"

On Kentucky game 2 years ago: "If I had a water bottle, I would have thrown it too. You might need to fill those up again"

On Marcus Grant: "He called and said he was committing to Northwestern. He hadn't even visited MSU. I couldn't let that happen..."

"I jumped in the car & drove over to Macon GA. I got there at 2am and knocked on the door. His momma came to the door & shut it in my face.."

"His dad came down, we talked and got on the MSU plane and the rest is history"

"We're going to welcome Texas A&M to the SEC at the Coaches Vs Cancer (now 2K Sports) Tournament"

"god (Cal) wanted 1 division so Kentucky could be 1st of 12/13 instead of just 6"

"Some teams angry with us winning the West voted for it, but now instead of finishing 5/6, they'll be fighting for 11/12/13"

"Practice facility is already paying off. We've brought 4 recruits for visits and had 4 commitments"

"We are working on 2 more recruits. You know I can't say their names. It'll come down to either us or one of the big-name schools for them"

"The one kid we offered in the 8th grade. His father passed away from cancer a few months later. Before he passed, he told me "Coach, take care of my son" You know I plan to honor that wish & I bring it up when recruiting him. You have to do what you can these days"

Josh Gray will be the best guard ever to play at MSU?<div>
</div><div>I see that Georgetown, Oregon, and Seaton Hall did offer him as well. But he's a 3star guy, correct?</div><div>

During some of our better years when we were easily leading the West, I'd look over the whole SEC and say to myself something like, "Ok, so we're 3rd in the overall SEC, just 1 game out of 2nd and 2 games out of 1st". <div>
</div><div>In a grand overall sense, it was cool to lead the West and be better than bigger, richer schools (Bama, LSU, Auburn, Arkansas), but in individual seasons, it didn't mean squat. In fact, many of the years we led the West it would have been better to not finish first so to have that extra SEC tourney game to add to our overall win total and help us get into the NCAAs. So many years it seemed like we were just one win away.</div>

Makes no difference to me but does anyone else wonder why schools like Ole Miss, LSU, and Auburn would vote for eliminating divisions also? I mean Stansbury has a point about these teams finishing 11th or 12th and not having a whole lot to play for by the first of February.

For the record: I think the new format will end up helping us by giving us a much needed RPI bump.

Did Stansbury say anything about the European player that we've signed, or does anyone have any information on the guy?

I've heard nothing mentioned about him in the past few months.

While I agree with the new format in principle, it does nothing but hurt Western division teams. It would be like the Big East suddenly saying "No thanks. We'll forfeit our automatic BCS bid because we'd rather fight it out for an at-large bid". Makes no sense at all

1) I'm sure he'd rather forget about him, but Gary Ervin was pretty damn fast. If Smith is truly quicker than him with the ball, then I'm looking forward to seeing it.
2) I have literally heard Stansbury say that about 5 times. Technically, a few of those guys like Bender, Outlaw, and Ellis never came to State so I guess he didn't coach them. However, he said that just last year about Sidney multiple times.
3) I'm pretty sure that every coach in America hates Cal behind closed doors, but that's pretty funny that Stans was so blatant with it. The "God" title is hilarious.

Basically, that the committee didn't give them much credit for winning such a weak division. But I agree with you. Doing away with divisions is bad news for the West teams. I didn't see people bitching when a 5-3 teamgot their *** kickedin the SEC football title game while 2 much better 6-2 teams sat at home. That's a hell of a lot less "fair" than an 11-5 basketball team not getting a bye in a pretty meaningless SEC tournament.

Pretty much every decent recruit he's ever landed is "the best (fill in the blank) we've ever had at MSU." Not knocking the guys, because I think they're gonna be damn good players. It's just Stans' typical coach-speak.

He's got what seems like that extra little step, one move and he's around his guy.. Should be fun to watch at the point this year.

I remember when Stans said Jarvis had a chance to be the best defender ever at MSU when he was a freshman. That worked out pretty well.

regress once they sit under his tutelage, it's probably an accurate statement to say they are the "best" while they are still just recruits.

Of course Stans has had some players who didn't develop. Every coach does. You just don't notice the ones that don't at other schools. But he's had plenty of others who did develop, sometimes dramatically.

Timmy Bowers improved 100% from high school and Jarvis also improved a great deal. Charles Rhodes also became a much more consistent player once he got his head on straight. Some of you read way to many message boards without examining the facts. And by the way, Deville is the real deal as is Hood and folks will see it.

Even though the series has gone heartbreakingly wrong for us lately, I do love the passion and seeds of hatred that have developed as a rivalry between us and the best team in the league.

I love that Stans hates Cal and isn't afraid to show it.

I would absolutely love to play UK twice a year.
