Positives:

We played the same tough, gritty defense that we have played all year
Lots of hustling, no walking up court
Sword can create his own shot and a shot for others
Rick Ray seems to becoming more "into his own", as a head coach
Baxter Price played in the 1st half

Negatives:

No point guard play. Zero. Zilch.
Ran out of gas in the 2nd half and OT
Our crowd was horrible, too much sitting. Fans were sitting in OT when we needed a big stop(including students).
Baxter Price played in the 1st half

Overall, I like our team. I would rather watch this team lose than last years team win. And yes, I meant that.

Agree on all points. Including rather watch this team than last year's team. Watching last year's team was nauseating.

Rick WILL bring us to the Promised Land. We just need more soldiers. Teams have figured out if they press and make even bringing the ball down court a struggle, we will eventually run out of gas. Wait until next year. If they try that sh*t with guys as conditioned as this team, and we have a bench to give guys a short rest, we'll be burning them down. Prediction--we finish no worse than 4th in the conference next yea-maybe. I know--it depends on how he recruits. But is think this is where he'll get 'er done. What parent wouldn't want to trust their kid with a guy with that kind combination of smarts, work ethic, and class? Time's they are a changin'

Kinda what Spidey said--top tier SEC with regular NCAA appearances. I think we could be tournament worthy by next season. Not kidding

I'll be honest - I'm seeing some things that are concerning for me long term. Mostly on offense. We're starting to look like a sped up version of Stansbury's offense. Yeah, guys are moving more, but that movement isn't really doing anything productive a lot of times.

My biggest problem is that when we need a crunch time bucket we don't seem to pull out a predetermined set play or two. We just run the same stuff. I dont agree with that. Jalen is out best shooter, but he also struggles to create his own shot so we need a few sets to run occassionally designed to get him a look.

Watch Florida - that's how you want it run. Granted, a lot of it is being freshman, but we rotate the ball very slowly thus we almost never catch a defense in rotation. They get tons of open looks because they move the ball so well and so quickly. I'll take the growing pains but at this point after watching them more I'm not so sure how confident I feel in the NIT next year as we're still going to be massively outmanned on the interior i think.

It's hard to run a set play without a PG

We don't have anyone that can both cut to the basket and make a good pass. Ware is also young and terrible at setting screens.

as a lifelong State fan, I sincerely hope you are right. I watched the game last night and I agree with the majority observations above about this team. Ray has the guys motivated and playing hard. Given equal talent, I honestly believe that Ray could beat most teams.

But State is going to continue to have the same kind of team it has right now until Ray can recruit better players. With what he has coming back, returning injured players and the ones he has signed, I just don't see him getting to the NCAAT next year.

When is he going to bring in the talent to get to "top tier SEC with regular NCAA appearances"?

i guess nobody realizes that our practices consist of defense, defense, and more defense. The team we have this year isnt going to win games by offense were not going to win in a shootout with the attrition to our team. This is why we play the game with a focus on defense, its the only way we have a shot. We were never going to have a good offense this year after the first set of injuries and players being kicked off and that just that so if your basing rick rays ability to run an offense off this year you are badly misinterpreting this teams philosophy and rays coaching ability/philosophy
