I think that Caroll saw the writing on the wall. He ran the West Coast in Highschool and he was recruited for that reason by Miss State. You don't need a strong arm for the West Coast. Thats why he did so well in highschool. He knew that the new coach was going to be wide open spread type coach and he did not see a place for him.

Although he helped give us our first winning season in six years and I hate to see him go I think it is the best thing for him and in reality for Miss State. In the eyes of a recruit like Russell, that's just one more guy I don't have to compete with for the starting postition.

So how is Russell going to feel when we bring in a juco QB geared towards the spread? Lets face it, new system and less then stellar O Line coupled with the fact that everyone has now figured out Lee means that we are going to need some depth at QB. Sure there is Relf, but he is a Croom guy and Croom did not seem to be real good at picking QBs. We are more than likely going to have to find a juco for Russell to have any hope of redshirting.

that simply wasn't going to happen in the SEC anymore. When he lost his job to Tyson, it had to be obvious to him that if he wanted to play somewhere, it wasn't going to be at State. Especially with Croom gone. I wish him the best and hope he starts two years at FIU.

I do think that Mullens knows that he is going to have to live with those less then stellar QBs for one year. I think his main concern is going to be O-Linemen. You really don't need a lot of Juco players in one recruiting class because it hard to build a sustainable program but he just might have to go to the Juco ranks heavily this year to get some offensive linemen that can pass block. Also I think he is going to try and make a point next year. I don't think he is going to sit back and not care about the first season like Croom. I think he is going to be a go getter and will do what he has to, to win.

Not taking away what you posted because those were some good points.

I don't think it will hurt him. I mean most of us wanted him to redshirt anyway. A juco quarterback would have two years, if not redshirted, and be a quick fix for carroll leaving. I am not sure Relf has the talent yet, but he may learn some real soon.

which carroll mainly ran the offense out of in HS........which according to Croom made his footwork not all that great for the Crooms Coast Offense
