GAME THREAD West Virginia basketball vs. Purdue

Watching on my phone but it’s appearing to me that we certainly aren’t getting a favorable whistle. That and Purdue is not missing shots. Not a great combination to overcome both.
Whistles are because we are fouling. Fact is that they are shooting about 70% and we have some bad offensive possession.
I bet they are 60% from three. Haven't checked stats but it feels like they've hit a bunch.\
EDIT: Just 5-11......45%......seems like they've hit a bunch though.
We've hung around without anything from Mitchell or Mathews. If we can get them going we have a chance in 2nd half. If not, it will take an epic shooting performance from Stevenson to keep us in it.
Stat you can't ignore: WVU 4-6 and Purdue 10-10 at free throw line. That's 6 of the 11-point halftime gap. This game still is winnable for WVU. Fronting giant seemed to work better than standing behind him and letting him get an open pass from another Boilermaker.
WORSE STAT THAN THAT: WVU MISSED 17 (!!!) 3'S. Miss only 12 and they win the game!
Mountain guy was in free throw lane WAY more than 3 seconds time after time with NO call. Despite missing SEVENTEEN 3's WVU was down only 4 with 5 minutes left in game. #24 Purdue and 7-2, 300-pound mountain, 80, West Virginia 68
Purdue made 24 of 28 free throws. BIG Boilermaker in 3-second lane forever but never called. WVU made 11 of 17.
Purdue made 8 of 17 3-pointers, WVU 5 of 22 (SEVENTEEN misses on 3’s).
WVU caused Purdue to make 18 turnovers but only scored less than half the time from them.
Despite all that, the fiery WVU defense pulled within 4 points with about 5 minutes left in the game.
If WVU misses only TWELVE of its 3’s, then it would have won the game. Going sour on 3’s ruined a chance to upset Purdue’s giants.
I expect this Huggins team to knock off some Top 25 teams this season. They had the fire and desire tonight but missing so many 3's and NOT capitalizing on so many Purdue turnovers were killers. Plenty of time to fix that before March Madness and Big 12 tournament.
Great insights, CFE, the award winning sports reporter. I feel much better today, knowing the Michigan Wolverines would have beaten Arizona State the other night, had they only made nine of those missed 3 point shots. They would have won by two instead of losing by 25.
First time watching the team this year. Seemed improved over last year’s dumpster fire, so there is that. They trailed by about 10 wire to wire against what seems like a decent 5 seed type of team which signals we are the decidedly weaker opponent. Optically the guys played hard and have some talent. Seem to have good chemistry despite most of them being new faces. I am cautiously optimistic in saying they will make the tournament based on what I saw, but not a team that is going to contend for much beyond that.
