I was looking at the future for Safety the other day. If Long, Mahone & Addae all graduate our numbers are really thin.

CB was much better than our typical depth with Porter & Faverus seeming to step up behind Fortune & Miller. Think Okoli was a good get too.

They have that extra covid year now. I don't expect all 3 will leave. Don't know who is RS or how many recruits at safety positions for 2021. I am sure they will look at a couple transfers as well. Then there is Martin who will transfer out, I believe.

I get that, just think there will be guys that get their degrees and move on. The Safety and possibly LB positions just look thin going forward.

Allen, you're prolly right about Martin going to the portal.
I don't know that we are thin if you count FS, Cat, Spear, ROV all as S's.
So far in the '21 class we have one S, Saint Mcleod and one ATH, Davis Mallinger.
I would think we would recruit 1 S, 1 CB, 1 WR and 3 OL with the 6? we have left.

You have Addae, Long & Mahone all SRs. And young will be next year. If they don’t want another year of classes, odds are many of these guys will elect to move on. Thinking KM will too. Friendly bet - we take one possibly two Safeties from JC or Transfer before next season.

What we have is good, just not enough depth or numbers for special teams. Just mho.

That's a good plan there. Plans don't always come together but that would be good.

I guess time will tell who stays who goes.

Most of these guys will return, and WVU will have the most depth that it has had for many years. WVU will benefit more than the handful of Power 5 schools that have tons of NFL prospects, many of whom won't return next season, despite their eligibility being "frozen" in 2020. Of course, a few seniors who graduate in 2021, and players looking for more playing time may move on, but other than Darius Stills, nobody should be expected to declare for the 2021 NFL Draft.

I think Andrew Wilson Lamp is recruited to play CB too... Which would be great, giving us more length at CB...

Lord, I pray that Martin NEVER again stops foot onto Mountaineer Field wearing a Mountaineer uniform.
If they were to allow such I vow that will be the first televised Mountaineer game in any sport that I will gladly turn off, watching no portion after confirming that he IS, indeed, dressed in uniform for the game. To me he is a disgrace to the "U", Mountaineer fans, and the athletic department.
Pardon the rant--PLEASE, but his actions disgust me.

All depends on if the 5 SR's want to return. We have only 5 underclassmen, 2 FR, 2 SO, 1 JR to go with 1 commit.
Still thinking at this point 1 more S because of the needs we have at other positions. ---- That again depends on the current SR's staying for another year. -- And we don't have a full 25 for this class because Brown pushed a few transfers into this class. 22 maybe?

From what I've seen Lamp is a WR, but if he has hands like a few of our WR's today he will quickly move to the other side of the ball.

He plays both ways in HS.... Ive read a couple articles that say he could play either way, depending on team's needs & development. I would prefer him to play CB, as Kaden P is an absolute beast at WR, as long as we get another WR, maybe Sam Reynolds for a different skillset... We definitely need at least 1 more OL, maybe 2... If I had a choice of the next 7 commits( if we are allowed 22 this class): From current publicly known targets:

Markus Allen
Deshauwn Alleyne
Sam Reynolds
JD Martin
Tavareon Scott
Colin Henrich
Armorion Smith or Walter Clayton Jr.

Preferred Walk ons:
Bryce Biggs
Toby Wilson
Naieem Kearney
Cam Rice

Getting back to OP topic...... DL is more talented and deeper than I've ever seen it .... and that's been way too many years since we stood in line at OMF and had our date bring in the 5th for fear they would check the guys.

Pooler and Stills are the only SR's on the DL. Young Stills could also go but IMO he needs to stay for his 4th year. Then again Pooler may not be a draft target and could use the extra year.
But with JR-Mays, SO-Jefferson and FR-Mesidor and Thornton to go along with Stills, that's 5 that are very talented. Any of those could be starters next year. Throw in Transfer JR's Alston and Brand along with FR - Martin and SO - Lee and we still have a very deep and talented team.
That doesn't even take into account the 3 recruits.

I really like what Neal Brown has done with the DL since he came on board.

If we have 7, I'm still with the 1 CB, 1 S, 1 WR, 3 OL and 1 DT (to replace McGriff) -- Could be convinced to take one of the OL to another position (K/P) but that would be a hard conversation because IMO we are still too thin along the line.
WR -- Allen
CB -- Martin
S -- Burks
DT -- Dinkins
OL -- Bethea, Henrich, Cruz (or Biggs from Huntington)
