It’s hard to believe that we are at the final reg week of HS football then the playoffs. Last week there was no competition with the games in this conference. But this week every game will be good competition. This week the upper tier teams will be really be important about the wins for playoff importance. Here is this week schedule.

6-3 ( 5-1) Hickory at 8-0 (6-0 ) Statesville
I honestly think this game could go either way. I think this will be a very competitive game. Giving this one a tossup. But leaning toward Statesville.

6-3 (5-1) North Lincoln vs 7-2 (4-2) East Lincoln
Big game of importance here. Honestly hard call for me to make. So I’m going with another tossup.

2-6 (2-4) North Iredell vs 1-6 (1-5) West Iredell
A big county rival game here. Should be a good contest but I think North Iredell will take the win.

0-8 (0-6) Fred T Foard vs 1-7 ( 1-5) St Stephens
Another what looks to be a good game. Fred T Foard and St Stephens have been struggling this year. Someone has to win. Going with St Stephens in this one.

Statesville wins 34-13. Congratulations to the Greyhounds to win the conference. My understanding with Hickory is they are a young team and I would think they will be contenders next season.

Hickory is mostly a jr/Sr club. Don't be surprised if Walker is at Statesville next year. I'll leave it at that. As I said this conference will always be about who finishes 2nd behind Statesville. I think playing in a weak conference and a weak non conference schedule will do no favors for Statesville in the playoffs

Of course it won't do Statesville any favors but you line up and play the teams scheduled period. As far as the playoffs go this Statesville is loaded with athletes. I have been to just about every hound game since 2000 and this team has athletic balance on both sides of the ball. Even more so than some of the other good Statesville teams. Even on special teams they have an excellent kicker that makes your offense start from your own 20 with his kickoffs. That's huge going against a athletic Hound defense on a cold night. Bottom line we heard the same thing last season. The NPC is weak but West Rowan went to Crest and beat them. We will see how the chips fall for the Hounds in the playoffs. I see .NO unbeatable dominate teams in the 3A west HMMM..

Statesville does have a solid team. They did better than I thought against Hickory. I wish the best for the Greyhounds going forward in the playoffs.

North Lincoln East Lincoln game is a thread all by itself. Most important game of the conference- battle for 2nd, playoff position, county respect, rivalry to the core, bout equally matched but East always has the upper hand on athletes 90% of the time anyway, this is one to see y’all.

Picks- NL and EL easily go either way, in an emotional thriller and first time both teams at same time have been 3A, and late in the season I believe North takes this one to the wire by 7 or less
