This will be the 16th state title appearances if you dont count 65.
Congrats to the coaches and players.
On to Duke.

Ps. congrats to Mitchell. Helk of an effort tonight.
I wouldn't say we didn't play good..by far the fastest and best defense we have saw all year...and the worse refs we have seen all year

TJA had a good team. Period. I said earlier they would play us to a 10 -12 point game. Their defense closed on the football as good as any 1a team I can remember. But when you can recruit at every position you should be able to. But they play where they are put. If they were told they’d play in 2a next year they wouldn’t fold the program. Can’t blame TJA this turd in the punch bowl belongs to the state. In 10 years public schools won’t be able to get out of the first round.

70 percent of tj team is from Rutherford county. But Robbinsville had a very good team. That was one of the best games I've seen . Neither team folded and the defenses kept getting stops. The refs were absolutely terrible. For both sides some bad calls. I've never seen a flag for holding waived off. Lol I felt TJ came out and matched the physicality of the game and helped set tone. The defense just got wore down from staying on field so much. Congrats to the black knights they are a classy crowd and have a great team. Bring home state!!

Can someone from out East give us a little information on the Jags. I know running the wishbone we’ll see run about 90% of the time if not more. What do they run on defense? Their defensive ends and linebackers better tighten everything up good if they want to slow down the counter and short trap. The same for us , we’re going to need to stop misdirection and isolation to win. I like our chances in the trenches. After playing Murphy’s front 4 and TJA speed up front we should be battle tested. See we can talk x and o’s with out slinging mud.

With some Cleveland County flavor on its roster, the Thomas Jefferson Classical football team hopes to put some of the county’s rich gridiron tradition to good use.

AVONDALE - The Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy (TJCA) Gryphon football team made some history last Friday night.

With their 35-14 win over Elkin on Friday, TJCA (12-1) qualified for the 1A West regional final for the first time in the program’s 10 years of existence. Even though TJCA is located in Avondale (Rutherford County), a few members of the team reside in Cleveland County within the 25-mile boundary necessary to attend the charter school.

“We don’t see it as a Cleveland County/Rutherford County thing,” senior defensive tackle Isaiah Foster said. “We are all unified. We are all Gryphons.”

Foster stands at 5-10, 390 pounds, and helps anchor a defensive line that includes Cleveland County residents David Borders II (320 pounds) and Forrest Roberts (260 pounds). Together with the rest of the Gryphons’ defense, TJCA has posted eight shutouts this season.

“I think our front seven is our strength,” Borders II said. “It’s not one individual player. We work together as a whole unit.”

For most of the players, the decision to cross county lines to attend Thomas Jefferson came down to academics instead of football.

Those athletes don't go to TJ because they have a good time with their friends in art class.

It’s over. TJ has lost out of the playoffs. Why are you still worrying so much about TJ

So whats the line on this?

Northampton +21?

It could be worse than that. Northampton isn't a good team, and from everything I have heard about Robbinsville, they are very good.

If Northampton can somehow match the physicality of Robbinsville, they will keep it a little closer. Either way I see a Robbinsville win by a margin of 28+

Its just info shared with me on facebook. I shared it here. Whats the big deal?
The deal is if a fan of any team that was already out of the playoffs tried bringing up anything about their team, you would all tell them to head to the basketball forums. So why are you trying to bring them up now

this eventually will end up like basketball and rob small town communities of championships. It’s not ok to put charters and prep schools in little 1a.

I never said that they should be there. I was the one who had said it wouldn’t bother me. But TJ can’t help the fact that the state puts them in 1a. So why do you hate on them so much. It’s not their fault, it’s the states. And if you cared so much about the issue you would take it up to the state not on some message board where your thoughts aren’t going to be heard.

Agree, TJ is within the state rules...so we cant blame them. Problem would be if they cheated on ADM or knowingly played ineligible players. If not I respect them...legit competitors dont cheat!

If charters did the right thing and asked for a change it would happen.
LOL! You really think Charters enjoy having to drive 3 hours here and there just to play a game? If they could change the rules everyone would. But its not up to the Charters or Traditional schools. Charters, for those in the back, are public schools and a part of the NCHSAA. So, not sure how Charters are not doing the right thing as you insinuate and aren't asking for change. The rules are stated, followed and adhered by all (yea right and that goes for traditional schools more than Charters). Enjoy the games and the competition from Charters. Not many Charters are too competitive across the board in sports. And believe it or not, most kids attend Charters because of the quality education being received and opportunities to get into bigger, better institutions.

What are you talking about.

Last time I checked, any kid can go to any school he chooses. So how exactly do charters break the rules in that regard

From my knowledge, public schools and transfer policies are set in place by the NCHSAA. People from Cherokee would call it the "Swain Rule". A kid from Cherokee could transfer to Swain and play the next season. NCHSAA a couple of years ago changed it where the kid has to sit out 2 semesters or 365 days before playing for the new school. What is the catch to this and how do it relate to charter schools? They get to set their own policies for transfers.

And charters have to abide by this rule. There have been plenty of transfers to TJ within the last 5 years that have had to sit out 365 days before they could play. Not exactly sure how charters get to set their own policies. You Must have gotten misinterpreted information from someone

Charters cant take any kid if school isn't full.
Charters also draw from a district of 100,000 plus ppl.
Graham has 8,000 alot of those are retired Florida folks.
Yeah, sounds about the same. Lol

Per TJCA website “If the number of students who wish to attend TJCA-CFA exceeds the school’s capacity, enrollment will be determined by a public random drawing. You need not be present to secure the opportunity for placement. Families will be notified the status of acceptance and be given a deadline to respond. The 2019 lottery will be held on March 25th.” Robbinsville and TJCA have roughly the same amount of students that attend, and have for a number of years. And unless the previous school doesn’t do anything, athletes who transfer have to sit out 365 days just like any other school. To my knowledge a charter school has never won a state championship in football, A charter school has yet to beat Robbinsville. But yet you can’t seem to get them out of your head. Even after all charters are gone out of playoffs
