Friends if I just wanted to comment on this, when Maiden Creek, mentioned the Daniel Boone Inn, it reminded me of something long ago: I took a dinner date, there, once. She was over 6 feet tall and looked like she weighed about 80 pounds. I have to say, this was an old friend and a fine individual, who was was experiencing some family issues which had cost her a bunch of money.Daniel Boone Inn!
…might be the best fried chicken east of the Mississippi.
Boom Devils! Baby
This date was a school teacher, and at the time was so frugal with her salary that she had developed a self-rationing system for what she ate, which I'm certain was depriving herself of food, so I think she stayed hungry most of the time.
This friend hadn't been to Daniel Boone Inn, before, and I don't know if they do it now, but then, they would bring out food in fairly large stoneware bowls. That night, one of the bowls had mashed potatoes, another one had green beans, another had ham biscuits, then another had fried chicken. I'll never forget her reaction to the chicken...Have you ever seen a cat zero in on a squirrel or Pidgeon ? That's what it looked like; and she ate and ate, and I was glad to see her enjoying herself so much... Don't know if it's like this now, but they would resupply you with what ever dish you asked for, except the ham biscuits which had a limit of six.
After the meal, she got a carry-out box for the chicken and vegetables, then wrapped the remaining ham biscuits in napkins and put them in her purse...Good times like that are just priceless.
Thanks MC for reminding me.
