Can be any sport. Doesn’t have to be State.

Topic stolen from Sportstalk Mississippi
5 is hard. It’s hard for new fans to comprehend how much fun MBB was in 1995/1996. I had more fun at our midnight madness during those years than many real games since. Toss in the Sherrill years and 2014 up to the Alabama game and there are just too many to choose from.

A lot that have already been mentioned.

I’ll add 2001: McComb over Clarksdale 14-0 for state championship, my senior year.

And a random Ole Miss-Arkansas football game; I believe Hunter Henry played in that game…

2. Watched the Saints win the Super Bowl in Miami
3. Beating Ark to go to the SEC championship game
4. Kick and the pick ole miss
5. Auburn beat down and knowing we would be number 1
6. Beating bama at home for the fist time in 50 years. I have pieces of the goal post from that game and Ark stacked on a trophy in my office.

1. 2014 vs AU. Just so electric you could feel number 1 in the country in the air. The air smelled good af that day.

2. The Clemson super regional championship game in 2007

3. 2013 super regional

4. When we beat Tennessee at home in 2012. I effin hate Tennessee, and I think it was a very long time since we beat them. State became 7-0 on the season. It felt so damn good at the time. Little did I know how fake of a 7-0 that was, but at the time it was hype.

5. 2017 when we beat down LSU at home. I was a student at that time so this was special. Nobody in the country had us beating LSU that day. We became 3-0. Sure didn’t think we would be whooped by UGA and AU the following weeks. Thought we were on another 2014 type run at the time, and thought Nick Fitz was the next Dak.

honorable mention- 2007 vs bama. The 2007 football team was so fun to watch, because we were so terrible in the previous 6 years. The 2007 team felt like gods gift to Mississippi State. The game vs Bama was effin awesome. We were down 10 to 3 I think, and Bamas about to score again right before half. Then state picks it off in the end zone, and ran it all the way back to tie up the game right before half. States defense was so nasty that year, and they loved to score

I was fortunate enough to attend our first games of the CWS in 2018, 2019, and 2021. The walk-off 1-0 win over Washington was awesome. Auburn’s 2019 9th inning meltdown was epic, and Bednar’s 2021 performance was one I will never forget. Went back for the championship series and will throw in games 2&3.

Also football vs Auburn in 2014 and was there for the 2002 SEC basketball championship.

Best game that didn’t involve MSU 2003 LSU @ OM football. That was a beauty to behold.

1999 Egg Bowl hands down.

Other events through the years, 2014 vs Auburn, 2021 in Omaha, etc would've topped it but I wasn't there in person.

ETA: 10 inning game vs Ole Miss, breaking the then attendance record.
Mangum breaking the SEC Hits record.

These are in no order

Zimmerman going coast to coast to win at the Tad Pad. —— Me and my friends rode up there with no tickets. Random ole miss chick walked by one of the outside doors and opened it for a whole group of us and we ran in. Watched the game standing the entire game.

2000 football Florida

2014 football Auburn

2004 basketball at Bama - We almost got up to leave but decided to stay a couple of more minutes. That’s when they started their run to get back into the game.

2017 Grizzlies Spurs playoff game. Marc Gasol hit the game winner in overtime with .7 second left.

There's nothing like playoff basketball in the grindhouse. That era of Grizzlies basketball was tremendous.

Top 5 All Sports:
5. 2013 Super Regional both games
4. 2014 UK Football Game as the number 1 team in the country.
3. 2010 Champions League Semifinal Inter Milan V Barcelona 1st League
2. 2021 World Cup Qualifier USMNT V Mexico
1. 2011 Champions League Final Barcelona V Manchester United

No, I'm not a Barcelona supporter. I just got incredibly lucky a few times. The 2010 semifinal I was still coaching, and I was in Italy with a team. In 2011, I was in the UK doing a coaching course, and figured it might be my only chance to see a Champions League final.

Slight hijack, but what was the loudest it's ever been to you at a State sporting event? There's been so many but here's the five that jump out at me:

1. The Arkansas OT football game that we lost where Ballard fumbled off the pylon. The loudest I ever heard DWS was that night
2. Right behind that, the Anthony Johnson 100 yard pick six against Bama - I think that was 2007
3. The game against #1 Florida with Tebow as their QB
4. Basketball vs Ole Miss when Stansbury got ejected and made the throat slash
5. 2007 Baseball vs Clemson

That would be my list. That Arkansas game was the best game that State ever lost. DWS was loud and rowdy. Honored Nick Bell before the game and it never let up after that.

The Anthony Johnson pick 6 the stadium was literally shaking. Incredible.

The Stansbury ejection game was loud but that Kentucky game was louder when they started making their run in the second half to get back into it. I was sitting on the third row of the student section and my ears rang for days after it.

MSU over Michigan in football 52-14, 2011 (Jacksonville, FL)
That Michigan beatdown is underrated as one of the best MSU football moments.

1. 1996 vs. Alabama football. As a high school senior, Mississippi State wasn't on my radar. I went to this game with a friend and applied the next week. Fall of 97 I was a freshman.

2. 2014 vs. Auburn football. No explanation needed. That was the biggest moment in MSU football history and we nailed it. Wish we could have finished.

3. The Clemson Super Regional. This board was electric that week. Seeing banana peels all over the field when we won was awesome.

4. The Bednar game vs. Texas in Omaha. I couldn't make it to the championship series but I was there for that game.

5. The Mario Austin late three game against Kentucky in the Hump. We were down 21-2 and came back and beat Kentucky,

It sure looked like a malfunction to me. At the very least, the wind got on top of the parachute because that dude was horizontal and spinning like a top. And when he hit the ground, he ripped up a chunk of the field. The delay wasn't just to pick that guy up. It was also to fix the field.

What would be the last Houston Oilers game. Joe Montana and the chiefs did them in, Oilers fans at the time were in a hate-hate relationship with the owner.

Msu v ls-who when we beat them for the men's basketball regular season championship. Rushing the floor was awesome.

Women's bb vs ND.

1.6-3 game
2. Brantley Jones beating Rebs to win SEC then giving double bird as he walks off the mound.
3. beating Ole Miss in triple O/T with Smoke burns hitting 2 free throws with no time on clock.
4--seeing the wind blow away our win against the dog-assed rebs.
5. beating the yard dog **** out of Spurrier and Him throwing his visor.

1998 State-Arkansas game for the SEC West Championship (essentially). I'm still hoarse somewhat
1996 State-Kentucky game in the SEC Tournament in New Orleans. Loved taunting Pitino like a jackass.
1996 State-Alabama football game.
1994 State-Tennessee football game
1992 State-Florida football game
I should have included that in my 5. That place was ROARING with KY fans at the beginning of the game and it got quieter and quieter until the smaller group of MSU fans took over. That night in the Quarter was the most fun I've had in NOLA and many of the KY fans on the street were very complimentary.

Criteria... in person, win, atmosphere

1. 14 v Auburn
2. 00 v Florida. There was an electricity in the air that day. Huge crowd. Everything seemed to go our way.
3. 21 regional, game 3 v ND. Great crowd. Great game between two good teams.
4, 99 SECCG. State had a decent crowd there. The defense scrapped and clawed. Prentiss return... so close.
5. 94 Bama game. Another electric atmosphere. You could not have fit another person in the student section. Literally, people standing in the isles. Heavy weight back and forth game.

Honorable mention
10 Arkansas game was fun.
99 egg bowl was a great game but just didn't have the build up of other games.
91 Florida game was a fun fun game. But just didn't quite have the atmosphere of 00 Florida game. Fun game though.

2. I stood on Alabama's sideline when Bear Bryant was coaching.

Wow. Very Jealous

Best part is that I took a client to that game for the company I worked for and it was entirely free. It's the only World Series game I've ever attended. Not sure I should ever go back, as it will be tough to beat. We sat about 20 rows off the field almost directly between 3B and the LF foul pole.

It was a long drive back that night to Houston after the game, though. 3 AM or so when we got back.

2014 Auburn football

2021 UVA game in Omaha

2010 Arkansas football, I felt physically sick after we lost that one, wanted to win it so badly

2009 sect basketball championship

I’ll go with game 3 of the 2021 super, ND was a damn good team (lucky enough to attend every game of the regional & super with my son - one of the best sports memories I’ll ever have)

Wish I could have stayed for the third Texas game and championship in 2021 but had to leave after the late rain delayed game.

Like others have said, there are too many to really cut it down. I was lucky enough to have been at a whole lot of the ones already listed, so I tried to think of my favorite in person game that no one had mentioned yet, and I have two - one MSU and one not.

The non-MSU was in St. Louis for McGwire's 70th HR. Absolutely electric atmosphere every time he stepped up.

As for MSU: 1991 State vs. ole miss basketball in the Hump. We both had good teams during that era. We were building momentum toward what would eventually become the SEC championship, so every game was critical. Especially a game against the confeds. We couldn't let them knock us off, so there was already a lot of pressure on the game. This is when Smoke Burns became my personal favorite Bulldog ever. This video is grainy, and the sound is weak (you had to be there), but you can feel the weight as he stepped to the FT line. Down 2, 0.00 on the clock, and no one else on the court.

I was at the 2014 game and it was awesome - undoubtedly a better experience just for the stakes and what it meant. But the top two on my list were much louder to me.

Oh I forgot a non-msu game. Dallas Cowboys v Detroit Lions 2023. It was a great game. Back and forth. Big plays and 4th down tries.

But towards the 4th quarter to the very end. The atmosphere was that of a college game because there a good number of lions fans there. Then the ending.... the Lions fans thought they won. Then the cowboys ... nope. Then finally the Cowboys did win.

Then outside the stadium with all the Lions fans, it was IN TENTS.

I was going to go to that game. But I went to USM 42, MSU 14 in Starkville and then Bama 42 USM 7 in Tuscaloosa. So I figured I don’t need to see this beat down & I missed it. I still regret that decision.
I saw the 42-14 thrashing to USM too. Fortunately I did see the 6-3 AL upset. I also saw the loss to OM in the 1983 wind bowl game in Jackson. My last Egg Bowl. Ha. Also saw the loss to Maine during Croom ball years and saw the blow out win against FL on Thursday night when Sleepy got hurt. I did see many wins too but in typical MSU style I mostly remember the negatives. Ha

In no particular order

state/auburn 2014

CWS 2021 championship game

Yankees/mets2009( Mets second baseman dropped pop up that would have ended game and instead turned into a Yankees walk off)

Tennessee/lsu( can’t remember the year, but Jamarcus Russel beat TN at the end)

Grizzlies/Thunder triple OT playoff game in 2011
