in 2009, we beat a soon to be 3-7 Jackson State team 45-7 and had to play our starters for 3 quarters of the game to do it. Afterwards, people we the most excited they had been in years and saw nothing but good times ahead. That team was a foot away from finishing 6-6.

Fast-forward to 2012:

We beat a Jackson St team that will win at least 8-9 games 56-9, had some of our starters on the bench before the 1st quarter ended, and rolled throughout the entire game. Afterwards, people worry we will end up 6-6.

Coach, if you get excited about stomping a SWAC team then God love you. You and Gene need to team up.

Scheduling a easy opponent like that is best....

...the game was over before halfway through the first quarter, everybody had a good feeling about our team this Labor Day weekend, by halftime most of the fans were back at the tailgate tents watching Alabama stomping Meatchicken and Clemson nipping the University of Auburn.

Next Saturday the atmosphere will be electric. The college kids will be partying from 12 noon Friday thru kickoff. The old farts will get up bright and early, fix a huge breakfast, and after performing stretching exercises and shotgunning 5-Hr Energy drinks with their bloody Mary's, will roll into the stadium fired up like they heard Joey Heatherton and Heather Locklear were making personal appearances.

" You and Gene need to team up." Gene has learned to make

a living toting MSU`s water no matter what the situation. It`s always opened doors for him with the athletic department. I`m beginning to wonder if we aren`t witnessing the birth of Gene II.

I think he's pointing out how stupid people like you are,

not getting excited about beating up on a SWAC team. There is more uncertainty this year after the JSU game than there was last year after the Memphis game. Last year, we knew exactly where our potential weaknesses were before the season and the Memphis game gave pretty good evidence that most of them were real weaknesses, even with the vanilla game plan and before our best OL got hurt.

This year, we know exactly where our potential weaknesses are, and other than maybe not having a backup OT, none of our weaknesses were confirmed against JSU. We knew we had question marks on the OL, and none of our starters looked incompetent. We even got to play two backup guards for basically the whole game, which at least lets us know that we have two serviceable if not solid backup guards, which we didn't have last year. Short of our OL and WR coming out and looking like All-americans, which we know they're not, I'm not sure what you were looking for. We'll find out more next week, but even then won't know much (unless we lose), because Auburn didn't exactly look like a quality SEC team versus Clemson.

I got comments exactly like yours after I posted like this after Memphis last year. I was looking for a dominating offensive line (back ups or starters) against BY FAR the worst defence we will face. Maybe y'all saw it but I didn't. Once again I seriously hope you are right.

If you "hope he is right" why don't you stop arguing about it in every thread and "hope"? We all know what you think.

To act like you saw the writing on the wall after the Memphis game last year doesn't make you "right", it just makes you nonsensical, something that is well-known already. The OL injuries couldn't be predicted, and they were literally the only difference between 6-6 and 8-4 last year.

So, congrats on being "right" about that. You are literally a broken clock on this.

Whatever, glad to know I was wrong and we dominated a SWAC D line like any below average SEC O line should. I called EXACTLY our record after seeing the Memphis game last year by the way. It makes me very sad that I did. I hope you boys are right this time. 7-5 or more likely 6-6 unless we beat Auburn. I hate those arrogent idiots now as much as I do the Bears so to heck with what I think and DESTROY those bastards DAWGS. They deserve to never win another game as long as Cecil is alive.

Thanks, now I'm picturing shsdawg as a literal clock with all his gears strewn about the floor.

Right 730 times a year...wrong the other 31,535,270 times. He acts like he saw the writing on the wall and "called it" when in reality all he did was throw his money on snake eyes the one time it hit. Doesn't make the "prediction" any better just because outlandish circumstances allowed it to happen. Shs can bet snake eyes every hand, I'll stick with the pass line. In the end, I will win.

Shsdawg, I used to get frustrated at your repetitive dubmass posts....but now that I've gotten used to them, your spelling of the word "DEFENSE" (not defence) is taking over as the most frustrating thing about your posts. But maybe you decided you were going to create a new spelling for defense, and a new definition will likely soon follow....if that's the case, never mind.

During that game- we were only up on JSU 14-0 at the half too. This year- we were up 35-6 with our back-ups getting a lot of snaps.

The other thing about the first time we played JSU- we had a new offense and defense, so we had to use that game to try out our new schemes and see how the team responded and work on things in general. We weren't as vanilla. This year, we are in year four of our offense and year two of our defense under Wilson- which is really year three. Our players know our scheme.

SHS is spot on...

As I pointed out yesterday, it was nice that we played several OL, worked our TE and were able to give our young RB’s a few carries. However, I still have the same feeling as I did last year after the Memphis game. I didn’t see anything that makes me think that we are going to be able to move the ball any better this year than last year. I think we will struggle to run the ball this year against SEC defenses, and our receivers will struggle to get open. The team I saw Saturday night confirms my 6-6 or 7-5 prediction for this season. Like ShS, I hope like hell I’m wrong……..

The lack of a back-up OT is the only thing we learned. Although the failure of the wide receivers to get separation against JSU db's is troubling, we can go 9-3 against our schedule with the known commodities in our wr corp even if they are just average, and we have a couple of young players that could improve alot over the first half of the season. We are a little better on the o-line than we were last year, but still an injury away from being in trouble. Even with a bad line, we won 6 and could have won 8. This year, two of our losses (USCe and UGA) are replaced with easier games, and Arkansas doesn't have petrino. The only thing we know is that we don't have the horses to compete against Bama or LSU unless they have an atrocious game and we get lucky (which we pretty much knew before Saturday). We'll know more after Saturday, but right now anywhere from 6 to 10 wins are on the table.

Well, we did exactly what we were supposed to do. Played mostly second and third teamers in the second half. I think that is what coach is talking about. We did what any good sec team would do with jsu.

....Saturday already confirmed your 6-6 or 7-5 prediction? Jesus... you, shs, and a few others (regardless if it's overly negative or positive) need to take a step back and find other things in life you enjoy, because you are getting too ahead of yourself. Only way your prediction is confirmed is when the season is over and your prediction holds true. Until then... chill..

Oh look, another psychic that knew we were going to lose 3 starting OL before halftime of game 3 last year!

You didn't see anything that makes you think we will be able to move the ball better this year than last year? Really? Oh, you mean, you didn't see anything to imply that we will be better than the SECOND BEST SEASON IN OUR HISTORY in total offense. Sounds a little more ridiculous when context is added.

Well done engie....

Not to mention many think our defense will be improved over last year with the addition of a pass rush, and Slay starting at corner opposite Banks. The "my 6-6/7-5 is confirmed after Saturday night" argument, may be the dumbest argument I've ever heard on this board.

i dont post much but....

i just have to say that i actually cringe when i see this guy post (shsdawg). everyone knows what he's going to say.
can you talk about anyhting else. you're like the kid who who won at something once and wont stop telling others, who have won
many times, how you did it. but you havent won anything. you hope so bad that we lose so you can come back on here and
say all this over and over again how you told us so. selecting a likely possibility isnt going out on a limb. pick us to win the west, or to only
win 3 games. thats taking a chance. then gloat. you have accomplished nothing!, other than annoying the hell out of myself and obviously
many others on here. i hate when i see you have written on a post that im interested in reading.

"loose"? Damn shs, you must have loosed the spelling bee when you were little too. I hate message board spelling and grammar police, but when it happens this much I just feel like I need to tell you that there is spellcheck on your computer for a reason...and you may think you're smarter than some on this board, but you Aren't smarter than spellcheck. I think a lot of you fail to realize that other teams...

also improve from year to year. Tennessee seems to be a lot better this year and Auburn has improved on the defensive side of the ball. Like I said, I hope I'm wrong. I would love to get over the hump and finally beat Auburn. On a side note, I hope Mullen will be more creative with his play calling like he was his first year. If he can be creative with Tyson Lee, surely we can mix things up a bit with Russell, time will tell.

Auburn improved on defense? What game did you watch? 528 yards, over 300 rushing...31 first downs...and Clemson was missing one of the nation's top WR's. Had he played, Clemson would have blown them out.

Damn Bill Clinton- I guess if you say it enough times people will start to believe it huh?

I see your point but Auburn was pretty...

****** last year on defense. UGA, LSU and Bama all scored over 40 points on them Clemson had a ton of yards but Auburn also put up 328 yards of offense and that game could have went either way.

is tennessee better than UGA or South Carolina

because those are the teams that come off the schedule. I think last year USCe and UGA beat this year Tenn, but maybe that is just me.

****** last year on defense. UGA, LSU and Bama all scored over 40 points on them Clemson had a ton of yards but Auburn also put up 328 yards of offense and that game could have went either way.

So, because Clemson didn't put up 40 points, but did put up over 500 yds of total offense(which we also did last year), Auburn is much improved on that side of the ball? Rightttt. Love that reasoning. All that says is Clemson's scoring offense sucks, because they moved the ball incredibly well otherwise.

328yds total offense against a Clemson defense that was #71 on total D last year(giving up an average of 394.4 yds/gm) is good?
