What a difference our season would have been

If Lebby, up 17 points with 12 minutes left, had just ran the play clock to 2 seconds each play, handed off the ball every play and punted out of bounds? Any HS Coach in the country would have done this.

We'd be bowl eligible with two big wins and a lot of optimism right now and thinking we have a chance against OM.

I'm not brining up the Florida game as the FG would have been 50/50 at best, and I really don't remember the particulars of the TN game, but losing the Texas game is beyond comprehension.

"Beyond comprehension", and yet, after Devon's shuffle pass TD put us back ahead by 17 I turned to my buddy and asked, " How do you think we're going to blow this?"

Haha, even I said to those around me, even we can't blow this. Turns out I was wrong.

Now we are to the point that if we don't upset OM, the season will be considered a failure and there'll be no optimism for 2026.

I'm not giving Lebby credit for improving us three wins compared to 2024 because no other coach in the country would have lost to Toledo. So he gets credit for improving is by two wins.

I don't disagree that if it weren't for Lebby's boneheaded decision making, we'd be at least 6-5 right now. However, there's some serious mental gymnastics going on to suggest the season's a wash.

Also, both Florida and Arkansas deteriorated from competent bowl teams to 3-9 jokes. Most good coaches would have beaten both comfortably because they suck, but Lebby lost one and barely beat the other.

Just not nearly as much improvement as 2 wins to 5 wins seems like on paper.

15 million in nil bought better players. Boosters improved the team. I don’t credit the coaching staff with much of that Improvement. They mostly bungled and Blundered.

Jeff Lebby’s offense is the the only unit in America that treats a 17 point fourth quarter lead like a personal dare to see how fast it can self immolate. This particular game should have been for the average Joe’s, and clear peak behind the curtain of what I’ve been saying all along. Lebby’s a fraud and a hype machine hire. The Texas collapse wasn’t bad luck, it was Lebby’s entire entire scheme and philosophy exposed. Blowing a 17-point fourth quarter lead to Texas after back to back three and outs totaling 3 yards, while repeatedly snapping the ball with lots of time left on the play clock isn’t just incompetence, it’s a clear damning indictment of Lebby’s entire one trick pony tempo obsessed gimmick.
