I can't link for crap but I just read where Boone said Ole Miss would turn down anything other than an NCAA or NIT bid if offered. Says it is basically a waste of money. I wonder how that sits with Kennedy? Seems like awhile back Boone said something about not wanting to host an NIT game or something because of money concerns too didn't he?

I hope we do the same thing. Everything except for the NCAA costs the host school upward to $60,000 per round, even more for the road team.

I agree with turning down the tournament below the NIT, but why in the hell would you turn down an NIT bid with a team consisting of a bunch of freshmans and sophomores? The tournament experience definitely can't hurt

...several big name schools turned down the CBI last year for the same reason.

Yea, of the 16 teams in the CBI last year, Washington, Cincinnati, and Virginia were the only major conference schools to accept bids. The rest was CUSA, A-10, MWC, WAC, etc.

I have no problem with us considering turning down the CBI if we don't get the NIT. We have a young team, so the experience could help, but at the same time, we are running low on players, and we probably would benefit just as much from the time off. Zach Graham is playing on a knee ligament that's waiting to tear any minute. Huertas just missed a game. If we play too many more games, there is potential we could find ourselves going into a game with only 7 scholarship players and only 2 guards. No need to push into a nothing tournament like the CBI under those circumstances.

All that said, Boone does suck, and it wouldn't shock me if he made this statement without consulting Kennedy. Normally, if you were thinking about making a decision like that, you'd sit down with the coach first to make sure he's in agreement. Knowing Boone though, he probably just made the decision himself without even talking to AK. I know for a fact that he scheduled the Fresno State 2 for 1 without even discussing it with Nutt, so he has a history of not communicating.

No point in playing for # 98 or # 114 in the country, or whatever those winners would be. Plus, the CBI has a best-of-three championship round. Why have that for a third-rate tourney?

its a much better bargain because you are more likely to make money at the gate playing teams like Kentucky than you would teams like Belmont. Plus, the NIT picks up the expenses for the semifinals. The other two play at home sites throughout with some weird best of three championship series./

I've said from the beginning that I can sort of understand accepting the NIT, even though it is for 66th place, but the CBI is just ridiculous. We gain nothing by going to that, except for being the first SEC team to go it.</p>

If you have a team full of freshmen and sophomores that need more experience then more games could result in NCAA bids down the road. A team full of seniors that underachieves then no. As much as I hate Ole Miss, Boone would be punishing a team that really worked hard and has overachieved to a degree. As a player or coach that would piss me off.

Speaking of all this, Saturday's game is a big one with HUGE NIT implications for both teams. According to nitology.com, MSU is currently sitting at a 7 seed on the bubble for the NIT, and we're sitting at a 5 seed with a shot to move into an all-important first round hosting slot.

Can the drama get any bigger than that? I don't know why ESPN hasn't picked it up for primetime.

The NIT is now controlled by the NCAA and teams don't lose money unless they sell virtually no tickets. MSU made money when we played in the last NIT and that was one of the things Stansbury was mad about when LT put that false information out.
