I think the only thing to be said is that no one outside the program has seen enough of Chugunov to have any idea. Not only haven't we seen enough, no one in the media has either so literally no one outside the program can have any sort of legitimate position. We know, at most, that relatively early in the season Holgorsen not only did not think he could do better than Howard, he didn't think he could do well enough to even give him a chance when Howard was floundering. If he thought Chugunov could help the team during the early stages of the season , he would have played him. At a certain point though, even if Chugunov was improving (maybe even especially if he was improving) it wouldn't make sense to burn the redshirt and lose an entire year for a few games. There's no bright line on when it's too late to burn the redshirt, but I'd think if Chugunov was game ready by game 6, it would have still been worth giving him a shot, After that maybe not, especially when we started running more and playing weaker teams for games 8-12. Holgorsen would be a bigger fool than I think he is if he didn't have an open competition for QB next season. Given that Howard is not very good, it's certainly possible he will be beat out. But, just because Howard isn't very good doesn't mean we will have someone better. Everyone will be hoping for that, but we just have to wait and see.
