For me it would have to be to host a regional, win the regional, and just see what happens in a super.

I say the expectations are to host a Regional and win it. Super's are tough to put expectations on because match ups are such a big part of it.<div>
</div><div>Hitting needs to be better by average, as well as power. Pitching should be close to the same, with a slight downgrade due to the loss of Stratton and Reed. Other than that, I just want it to be very obvious all season that we are an upper tier SEC team (Top 5-6...remember we will have 14 next year, 10 of which made Regionals this year), that is never really in doubt of hosting.</div>

I agree. Year 5. Host a Regional...but I would settle for winning someone elses too. However, we must play well early and often and win more SEC games. That is what sets up that 1 Seed and guaranteed Host.*

Pitching will be good, but losing Stratton is going to hurt a lot. Offensively, we have so far to go it's going to be hard to get there in just one year. Cohen inherited one of the worst pitching staffs I've ever seen, but it wasn't much worse than our position players are now.

I think Cohen knows better than any of us just how bad we are offensively. He went overboard on improving the pitching, which is understandable considering where it's been. He'll get us better offensively, but it can't all be done in 1 year. I think next year, we'll be a borderline regional host and a borderline super regional team. Long-term, I think our future is pretty good. And if we overachieve as much next year as we did this year, we could be better next year. But I expect about the same next year but without losing a player as good as Stratton for 2014, which should be good news long-term.</p>

takes a baby step back... our offense should take a major leap forward.

We'll have several key guys with experience coming back (Rea, Slauter, Porter, Frost, Frazier, Henderson). The injuries to Brownlee, Bradford, and Norris were killer this year.

If Norris comes back healthy (and hits, instead of pitches like the rumors I'm hearing) and we get CT Bradford for an entire year, we're going to be a damn good team. I'm not predicting a regional host or anything like that, but our team will be good next year. If we can avoid injuries, there's no reason to think we can be in the top quartile of the SEC.

But I think asking for major improvements in one year is asking a lot. It could happen, but I'm not expecting it. As for the pitching staff taking a step back, I agree that it won't be a huge step back. We're going to have a damn good staff next year. But I'll be surprised if we're in the top 4 in the country in ERA. We're going to have a good season next year, but I don't think we'll be a serious CWS contender just yet.

and here's why.

This season we had an awesome Stratton, really good Graveman, and Sunday by committee

We wont have anyone as dominant as Stratton but with Graveman, Woodruff, and Lindgren as our 3 we will have the same if not more production from our starters.

If Graveman comes back***

You could be right. I do expect good things from our pitching staff. But it's a huge luxury to be able to throw a 1st round draft pick out there every Friday night. We're kind of splitting hairs here. We all agree that we'll have a damn good pitching staff next year. If you're right that we won't miss Stratton at all, we're going to be a team nobody wants to face.

we played most of the year with a hurt brownlee, norris, and rea. Injuries can't be planned, but it is unlikely we will face what we had to face this year injury wise.

add in a heathly ct, stark, norris, henderson, and rea ...replace a frost, inexperience of ...we get better
I wonder exactly what we will get out of woodruff next year, did he put the glove down or can we get an everyday of out of him in right and a couple innings a weekend, maybe he starts ...he is talented for sure I can't wait to see what he picks up in the Cape.

I expect us to be in every single game.
I expect to be ranked most of the year.
I expect us to battle USC, Florida, Vandy, LSU for the regular season championship
I expect to host a regional
I expect to be in a Super

My thoughts almost exactly. I expect vast improvement at the plate. ALOT of our failures were inexperience issues, not talent issues. I mean things such as pulling off breaking balls, etc... We will be a middle-of-the-pack hitting team next year and still top 2-3 in conference pitching. We will have the depth next year to get guys out of there that aren't hitting to give other guys a chance.

I think some of you are taking my comment about not expecting a whole lot better next year than this year too negatively. Let's look at what that would mean if we just matched this year and didn't do much better. It would be 3 straight years of legitimately competing for a super regional and 2 straight years of legitimately competingto hosta regional. That hasn't happened for MSU baseball in a long long time. I'm more optimistic about the future of MSU baseball than I have been since the day we re-hired Ron Polk. But I think it's going to take another year of building the foundation before we start to see the real success.

Hell with zero offense and injuries galore we tied for 5th in the conference this year.

Let's open up a few roster spots and get the new guys in.

A lirtle birdie told me we're not quite finished recruiting either.
