Just heard from someone that word is starting to spread that the funds came from the Louisville Foundation. Same entity, I believe, that's tied up in the uofl president's compensation controversy.

McGee's attorney denied the allegations in the book Friday night, saying his client only earned a small stipend while a graduate assistant at Louisville.
Hmmm...so the reason the story is fake is because McGee didn't have enough money to support the scheme? That means the money came from another source. Money from another source to bankroll a criminal enterprise, and this was criminal, puts us into the realm of "conspiracy" .
IF this is treated as it should be, as it would be if it were UK, then the authorities beyond Louisville Metro will be involved soon. That would be nice.
If there's any truth to that, wow...just wow. This is going to get real.
So I'm trying to come up with an all inclusive list of uofl shenanigans, stuff that's gone on there that wouldn't happen at any other place without serious consequences (as opposed to raises and contract extensions). Here's what I can think of:
1. Prostitution ring for recruits.
2. Sypher/prominent coach has sex on restaurant tabletop.
3. Rehire of scandal ridden ex-coach Petrino (universally criticized)
4. Clint Hurt/show cause, canceled checks floating around.
5. Willie Williams - would any other school take him?
6. Michael Dye - would any other school take him?
7. Devonte Fields - would any other school take him?
That's what I can think of. And yet, we're dirty cause they just know Cal is dirty, even though there's no evidence of it....

I should stress I'm skeptical, not of the story but of the source. But we should know something soon....
After reading the book, no way UL gets past this. Especially since the NCAA is speaking to recruits like Antonio Blakeny that didn't end up sticking to their UL commitment.
Tim Sypher received a $100,000 bonus the year that he married Karen for Rick. The money came from the Cardinal Fund. Not exactly university money, but as I understand it, the university decides how it is dispersed. No doubt that money was a direct payment to her to keep quiet.

I heard that some of the recruits left their visits early, shortly after Rick Pitinos press conference.

So now Rick is trying to downplay it by saying the escorts were there like any other college student just taking pictures. Mind blown, this just a couple of days after the somber, my heart is broken press conference. You really can't make this up.
In the book at the very end they talk about who ask they tried to contact for interviews. Said rick,ul,etc no comment. So I would say they have known fora while.
Judging from the Jurich-Pitino press conference, there's something to this. The press conference was designed to do one thing: further the narrative that UL has been as vigilant as they could possibly have been. If this occurred, then it was the action of a rogue individual and there was no possible way to prevent it.
There were no denials from Jurich or Pitino, simply a lot of "we're as shocked as you are" and we contacted the NCAA the instant we heard about it. These charges are probably true, so now UL has to try and convince the NCAA that the institution had nothing to do with it in order to minimize the penalties.
Pitino's quotes about McGee were particularly revealing. The comments about McGee not being under any pressure were Pintino's way of saying "I didn't tell Andre to do this."
Pintino also said if Andre did this, "I've got to forgive him, but I don't want to see anything bad happen in any way to this program." Andre McGee better wise up, because these aren't his friends and it looks to me that they're setting him up to be the fall guy. All the nice talk about McGee that preceded that quote appears to be their way of convincing McGee that they're on his side. Honey in his ear and a knife in his back.
Look at what that city pushes their school to do in a futile effort to get a win against the mighty UK . Get your life in order Louisville , you are giving kids drugs and hookers for a basketball game . Clearly the strain to keep up with us has drove them to madness .
On Wlky TV tonight, they reported about a photo of a proof of payment from McGee to Powell. I missed the specifics concerning the type of payment it was- check, wire transfer etc... Does anyone know how McGee paid Powell per the photo in the book as reported by Wlky?

I was looking at one of the journal entries where it list the parties by company name and/or individual name and dollar amount. One of the entries is listed as "McGees people" while others are listed as UofL basketball and/or McGee

This is the one thing that makes me believe it is ALL true. Why would a Pulitzer-Prize winning author risk his reputation on this prostitute if he hadn't seen and verified all of the information in the book?

I've done a little reading on this author. He seems like a badass that Louisville wants no part of. Yes, he has a Pulitzer. But more. It was for finding corruption in the Indianapolis police force. Cops had their hands in prostitution (so he's got experience). They tried to set him and a partner up for bribery. Arrested and indicted. But they still went through with the story. Police chief lost his job and the charges were dropped.
In the mid 70s, a reporter was killed by by the mob in Arizona that he was doing a story on. This dude gets in a car and drives to Arizona to help FINISH THE STORY ABOUT THE MOB THAT KILLED REPORTERS.
Hookers for a basketball team? Tom Jurich? This stuff is small potatoes to him.
Then that would definitely be of interest to the Feds. You can't send monies across State lines for illegal activity. That is a great big red flag to me. Of course, determining that the funds were intended for use as payment for prostitution might be difficult. Unless, investigators can match the payment amount from Mcgee to a "payment received" entry in the Madame's diary. That would effectively connect the dots.
Maybe this old man can walk into the courier journal our WDRB, slap someone like Eric Crawford across the beak, and shame them into doing their job.

This right here. Having a guy like this attached to the book is huge in terms of it's legitimacy. It's over for lil brothel.
Thats what gives me more hope than anything about this, the fact that the author is not some fly-by night character. This guy has one helluva resume, and the fact that he has already come out and said that he stands by what he wrote is huge. If this guy refuses to back down then it will all be over for UL.
The only thing that bothers me about it is waiting to see if the NCAA will be swift, or if it will be 2-5 years down the road before they actually made a decision and put penalties in place.
