I thought the University of Louisville's president made a very telling statement earlier today. When he said that Louisville essentially has two presidents, he was really putting a lot of distance between the University and the Athletic department. That is either very cowardly or it is a very slick move to try to engage in preemptive damage control. At a minimum it suggests that Louisville's priorities are out of whack. Athletics is a $$$$ maker for them and the president seems fine with this separate entity having that much power.

Second, I'll bet Louisville's provost will find it somewhat surprising that the President considers himself head of academics. I guess as president, he's supposedly head over everything, but it has always been the provost and not the president who heads academics.

This may be a minor point, but it just suggests to me that Louisville is extremely scared right now. Why would the president inappropriately distance himself from athletics at a time when his leadership is needed, but then inappropriately assume control over the provost's role, unless his first priority was positioning himself in such a way to make him sound like his responsibility had nothing to do with athletics at all ? If I'm a professor at UL, I'm furious right now. Just too easy to see through these shenanigans. Even the president is burying his head in the sand, investigation or not.

One final point: how many investigations will happen? Louisville, police, NCAA? That, too, may be designed to muddy the water.

on a side note, what a pr grand slam. no wonder cady was so calm. seems like just yesterday the book came out and ul is already neck deep. whoever wanted to rush this story probably quadrupled the sales of that book. it needed to happen though and the money is obviously secondary. but they dropped a bombshell. one meticulously crafted. and there hasn't even been an investigation yet.

Age of consent in the state of Kentucky is 16.

“The NCAA already knows the answers to every question they are going to ask,” a source told SNY.tv. “[Lyle] had to tell them or he was going to get hit with the amateurism issue on benefits.”

I know what the age of consent is,, still a minor if under 18 in which adults bought a hooker for a recruit,, both were minors at the time.. According to which daughter it was also,, one was 15,, other 17 if I read it correctly?

Pitino is the control freak of all freaks. Am friends of a former UK player who played for Rick. He swears that Pitino knew every minut detail of everything that went on under his watch 24/7... From class attendance to extra curricular activity.

He said that you're worst nightmare was to have a note posted on the bulletin board at Wildcat a Lodge , that Pitino wanted to see you immediately in his office.

I believe what you're saying, but I wonder if he has changed with the win at all cost culture at UL and the fact that Calipari has owned him since arriving at UK? Just a thought.

He keeps saying what he did at UK and how he turned our program around after we got in trouble. I have issue with him saying that because yes he helped UK but he's at UL during all of this...he's the Head coach. He thinks he's above accountability. And if he saying he didn't know then he doesn't have the program in his best interest. He just let the players police themselves.
One can go on and on about the things Cal does to instill family values in all his players.

I love it that they are hoping people with dirt on us come forward now. Yea card fans you've had dirt on us that you aren't using. What was the plan, wait til we win 10 in a row before undoing our program?

Desperate times calls for desperate measures...plus we're talking about UL fans, so you know... I still wonder, which is worse, UL fans or IU fans?

I don't want Pitino out. I want this thing to linger. The longer it goes, the more they suffer.

So, the Louisville Foundation, an independent fundraising organization for UL has lawyered up with a big time firm. Could this be the money trail? Boosters gone rogue? Just interesting.

No. The board of trustees has hired a law firm to do an investigation for them. Basically saying they don't trust an investigation done by anyone else within their institution.

The Louisville foundation is something totally different than the BOT.

Hey, UL! Show us your best hook-er shots!
Hey, UL! You can't score on UK, the only place you can score is in Minardi Hall.

Be fair, it was thanksgiving and Pitino asked McGee to go out and get enough turkeys for everyone. McGee noticed every store was all out so he brought the only other thing he knew to Gobble Gobble.

I could be wrong but I honestly don't think Rick knew about this. If I was an unknowing coach in the midst of a scandal like this, people were calling for my job, and the AD was giving me zero support, I'd pretty much say whatever I felt like. Kind of a "screw it, do what you gotta do. I'll do my job until somebody tells me otherwise."
Yeah, about that "I didn't know" thing, how did that work out for Calipari at UMass and Memphis? Cal actually didn't know but that didn't matter and in the opinions of every rival fan "YEAH HE KNEW, HOW COULD HE NOT KNOW". Well it works both ways. If Cal knew then Pitino knew.

EXCEPT.......it was UL that rushed the story Friday afternoon. IBJ still doesn't have hardback copies ready until next week. They weren't going to press until UL leaked it to Forde and IBJ followed up with a release and then still had to scramble to get the electronic version ready for release the next day.

Guess it hasn't exactly gone according to the Jurich/Pitino plan....

I'd bet the farm that Pitino knew all about what was going on with the hookers,he just used McGee for "plausible deniability" ,I believe Pitino was pushed to do things he may not have done otherwise in trying to compete in recruiting against UK and Calipari.Although Pitino has a history of recruiting violations and impermissible benefits at the University of Hawaii and Boston university.
Amazing how Pitino tries to use his record at Kentucky and much like the Dirty Redbird fanbase deflects toward UK when UK had nothing to do with any of this in any way, shape,or form.

The fact that he keeps bringing up alleged violations at UK back in the '80s makes me think he is really getting desperate. It's a petty move made by a guy that appears to be grasping for anything to keep himself afloat.

You all are being quick to punish Blakeney. For what? Who knows if he lied. Maybe he said what Lyle said, or maybe nothing happened on his trip. A little hasty being NCAA investigators don't you think?

You might want to read my post again. You seemed to miss the point completely.

yes cady said that wasn't his decision. obvious damage control. i'm just intrigued with the timing of the book and how quickly the public and media seem to be responding.

I wonder if this ends up being the straw that breaks the camels back and this starts to unravel the whole "La Familia", "this thing we have" lifestyle that has infiltrated that university. Before, the national media couldn't give two snaps about what's gone on there, maybe this will open their eyes to a broader story. Would love to see some SERIOUS investigative reporting...60 minutes or Dateline NBC style investigative reporting.

Who released the recruits testimony? Pitino said he doesn't think the NCAA would release any info. I was thinking the college released the statement.

If I was Rick, I would resign take a year off and if he wanted to get back in coaching, make no doubt about it he will get a call to coach again.
