Not a lot of talk this week.

I really don't know abor Glenvar other than they have a good defense and outside of three games this year they have put up some big numbers.

Keys to the game?

An obvious key will be McCauley and whether he is 100%. If so, he will have the potential to take over the game if Glenvar has not seen anything like him before. But then for all we know, Glenvar might have someone of their own that could smoke the Wilson defense. I personally expect a high-scoring offensive game, even though both have put up some impressive defensive numbers.

One thing that sounds good so far is the weather. It is supposed to be sunny and near 50 during the day, meaning that for most of this game, it should still be warm enough to sit there and enjoy it without being miserably cold or wet.

I think Glenvar will win due to the fact that they are a bigger threat to throw ball. I look for Wilson to run up middle every play, except 3rd and long, when they run sweeps. (that's what they did last time I saw them play)

Well, it's cliche time, but obviously our (Wilson's) o -line needs to give our backs a little space and our d-line needs to give our linebackers a chance to make some plays. I think we will do something different at times on offense, not exactly sure what. Not giving the ball up on downs in our own territory with a lead is also something that should not happen again (if you were there last week you know what I mean).

If Wilson wins one it better be this year. I don't see Glenvar throwing the ball that well. The two safeties for Wilson are very good football players. They sit about 15 yds deep and don't let anything get behind them. They also come up and get a lot of hats to the football. The key to moving the ball on them is working short to intermediate routes. Then its a whole new ball game from the 30 in with them. Good luck to both teams and I'll be riding up from Richlands to watch the game on Saturday.

Glenvar is bigger and stronger on both lines. Wilson is quicker. Both are equally tough.
Glenvar is still very hungry, still humble and they will play to win. They are not just "happy" to be there and they will play like they have nothing to lose.
Wilson has the tradition and experience, (reminds me of Salem) but not so humble (based on some facebook picture postings by some Wilson players seen this week.

Glenvar is very balanced. They will take what the defense gives them. They can win with the short or long pass or the power run or outside speed.
Wilson is great at the run and will probably have to run the ball well or execute some trick plays.

Turnovers will trump any advantage either team has. Glenvar has been great this year on holding onto the ball. Don't know Wilson's turnover ratio. Artificial turf may help Wilson but not sure it will be a major factor for either.

Good luck to both teams. You both deserve to be there. Great place for a high school playoff game. Better than Liberty or UVa for HS state championship game in my opinion.

I wonder if we saw the same picture? The one I saw was of #1 McCauley with his helmet off, with the caption: "Fear this Glenvar"

The Wilson player is not responsible for that picture. Someone else made it and tagged him in it.

I believe Wilson Memorials Turnover Ratio in the playoffs alone is somewhere around +16

I think it should be an interesting game.

Several tid bits about our team worth noting

No team has scored more than one offensive touchdown in a game on the defense. Also only two teams (Riverheads and Richlands) have scored on rushing touchdowns

Last was also only the second time all year that Wilsons offense was held in check for most of the game. They did play without star RB Juh-Kwquan McCauley for a big chunk of the game though.

This team has shown it is capable of shutting down a spread offense, running offenses, and then whatever you would classify Brunswicks offense as(reminded me a lot of R.E. Lees)

So I just can't see this game being one filled with offensive fireworks. Of course I've been wrong many times before

That was one and the other one had some players with baseball bats. I say it's great and Wilson players should keep posting but if I were their coach I wouldn't be happy about it. Reminded me of the signs Giles put up in their stadium and the players and fans had to look at them all game. Just made the players work harder and the victory that much sweeter.

Yes, I should have clarified, McCauley did not make that picture/caption... Someone else had posted it.

Back to the game: I don't see an offensive shootout... I can see one team blowing out the other and putting up a lot of points that way or it being a defensive struggle, but I would be surprised to see a 35-28 game where BOTH teams are putting up a lot of points.

How about a little respect for a very good Richlands defense! Not even a week after giving us kudos, now you are making excuses for your offense being held in check most of the game. After WM first drive Richlands made the adjustments needed to control the double wing. You didn't hear us on here making excuses because of the players we had out or limited playing due to not being 100%. We lost our best lineman the first game of the season along with our top receiver. We didn't make excuses, just adjusted and moved on. Have a little class and give credit where it is due.

Richlands92 I have been nothing but complimentary of your team. They held us to our lowest point total in regulation for the entire year.

But #1 is an absolute game changer who was injured the week before..not in week 1. At 100% health would the game have been a little different? We will never know. Outside of three drives you guys locked down whoever was in on the drive and that's all you can do

Geesh, here we go again. Do u think the players make the signs? Cheerleaders happen to make majority of signs. Only sign I seen that was great is the bus stops here and that was a fact for both games.

IF Glenvar can stop Wilson's run game, the advantage swings slightly to Glenvar. IF Wilson can continue playing lights out against the pass, then I suppose we have a dead heat. I have give a lot of credit to Wilson's D especially the LB's and DB's. I will go further out on a limb and say that overall the O has been carried by the D to this point. All due respect to the O but RHS D was average and held them in check for the most part. The D is just that dominate and again will have to pitch close to a shut out to win. To be clear, this is not haterade. It is my honest opinion based on seeing them multiple times. Lots of respect for them getting to the state championship cause it is not an easy thing to do. As for the score of this game, 16-7 Glenvar. It could just as easily be Wilson winning by that score, just gotta go with my gut. A lot of this is based on several slow starts by the O against inferior teams.Good luck to both, u should both be extremely proud to represent ur school and community.

I think another big key..one that really cost us against you guys is if the run is going no where, how long do we wait til we spread the field

Wilson has a really good kicker so PAT's shouldnt be a problem but you never know. Wilson showed some weakness in punt formation last week but that was partly because the punt team very seldom made it on the field during the season but I am sure they have corrected those problems.

I agree about spreading the field but this is not their normal offense so I would think they may be more likely to turn it over it they go to it. They are effective with it at times but then u have to pass block and that line has not done that a lot. I will state again, in my opinion, it's hard to switch from a predominately run team to a legit passing team or vise versa in a weeks time. Turnovers will again be the key stat as it is on any level in the playoffs. Listening to the talk about Glenvar being able to stop the run and pass somewhat effectively, looks like it's going to be who can do what they do so to speak. Speed on the turf may come into play but I would think that with a passing game they have some speed somewhere on the field. It will probably be the toughest test for either team and should result in a great game. Either team can win so it's not likely to get out of hand either which way. Coaching decisions could come into play if either is too confident and does not punt in obvious situations. I love going for it on 4th down but on my side of the 50 and close game, I am punting and trustin my all world D. Hoping for good weather and not even knowing there is a Ref on the field. Have fun and enjoy the atmosphere. These trips are not easy to come by and should be appreciated.

Speaking out of turn but it's generally when they trail and the run game isn't working well. It's somewhat effective but they went to it too late and their biggest plays come from the QB scrambling in that formation. I am sure Trevor has seen it more often that's just my take.

QB Mack Cullen is pretty dangerous once they spread the field as he is a very capable passer and he can really hurt the defense with his running ability. I would use him a lot this weekend if I were coaching, especially if McCauley is still battling his injury.

I wouldn't say we "run" but there have been times throughout games this year where he have shown that if need to we can. We ran it when trailing to RHS as he mentioned but we have also ran it randomly throughout the year to stay fine tuned on it

I liked that Wildcat or singlewing (whatever it was) that yall went to in that last drive of regulation vs Richlands, when McCauley was taking the snaps.

If Wilson runs the spread it is because they are in trouble and need to score points. If they go to the spread I think we will see some picks and some sacks. Their best way of winning the game is a controlled run game.

Well they haven't really done anything yet! Won some playoff games, so what, had a good year so what. School know has something for those State Champion Cheer Leaders to really cheer about. Every team (almost every team (Perry Mcluire)) has won a bunch of playoff games. When and if that green team wins Saturday. I will give them props until then they had a good year.

Most people hate RHS because they are good EVERY YEAR. And yes the fans and player are mouthy. But they have earned the right to be. Because no one respects them. Always hating because we are good. So we are labeled as this and that. But I'm fine with that, someone has to be the bad guys. And that is us and proud of that. If people are hating us then we are succeeding at what we are doing.......

We dislike you because of your attitude. Not because of you're winning tradition. I hope that my Hornets can have a 15 year spell like Riverheads has currently had.

We dislike you because you seem to forget where your program was before that. We dislike you because whenever we do have a good season you guys shoot it down because we didn't go all the way, even though we may have went further than you. We also dislike you because you're players themselves say online we were created by the media.

I could go on an on about why we dislike you. But the reason you believe it is has nothing to do with it. One day your run will come to an end. Could be next year could be ten years from now. But never forget where you were before it.

I know we don't forget being a doormat for 20 years. Riverheads has been there. We all go through it. Look at Gretna now

I am still not real sure what attitude u are talking about though. If u mean the one where we feel every year we will win 8+ and make the post season. Or the one where we truly feel that we should win every game we go into, maybe that one. I think u are starting to get that attitude at Wilson. I am not saying it's bad thing at all. When u produce over and over it becomes a momentum thing. Winning is contagious and so is losing. I seen the comment u are referring to and u know, I think everybody including myself was about tired of the local media's attention to a scoreless streak that didn't have a single winning team at that time. Have they played well, certainly, that said I hadn't seen a thing about Glenvars 5 shutouts this year until reading a preview about the state championship. Not that I would have seen anything locally but I had not even seen anything on here. Just be careful how much u claim we are arrogant when with ur current success , Wilson has become as arrogant. Sure u personally try to say the right stuff on here and on. Twitter but as a whole the Wilson fan base is getting cocky as well. The thing is, it ain't bragging or boasting if u back it up. For the past 4 years Wilson has done that for the most part. Until we have a bad stretch I will continue to believe we will compete for state titles. If that attitude is bad, arrogant, cocky, etc.... Call me all of them every year cause that's my mindset.

On Glenvars shutouts...

I knew!! Because of that post I made every week about top offenses and defenses. The one that a lot of people said had no bearing :) well look at two of the teams who just happened to be at the top of that defensive one.
