What happens if Justin Parker goes 8-1 and gets into a regional?

You thank him for his service and ask if he wants to interview for the pitching coach position with the next head coach. If Lemonis with head coaching experience was a stretch, Parker certainly is. He has 5 seasons as a pitching coach with no head coach experience so no you don't turn a SEC program with some history over to a coach with none

I hurt when we fire coaches. At a football Dawg Walk I watched our coaches who stayed with Arnette, walk through the crowd with their children. Some of you ‘quick to call for firings’ should be forced to watch families that are searching for what’s next. That being said, Lemonis was dragging us down. We are a proud program and I look forward to the future. If Parker is the man, I am for it, as long as we play sound fundamental defensive and offensive baseball. We should be searching for players from all parts of the country, something we are not doing today.

We hire someone else

An interim coach’s job is to coach the team for the remainder of the season

If Gary Henderson wasn’t hired for what he did in 2018 after all…

Seems to me that if Parker was a serious potential candidate, this move would have been made weeks ago.

no, something else is up. I wonder if somebody with influence finally helped Keenum understand that ole miss will be in a search in a few weeks, so waiting any longer to $hi+can lemon made zero sense under the circumstances.

Head Coaches and assistant coaches get paid!
They get hired, they get fired, they get paid!
They knew all of this when they signed up for being a coach.
I don’t think anyone of them think they will be in a place 20-30 years.

Thank you. They get paid big bucks to do a job any of us would love to do for much less (but we’d get what we paid for).
I hurt seeing people fired, but he wasn’t blindsided. He surely knew what was about to happen. I’m sure he’s slightly relieved not having to wait for the shoe to drop. Now he can move on. He’s still getting paid.

If you ever fired someone who wasn't an awful human being, you know that it comes with some heartache and soul searching on their part. You sometimes have to fire people, but nothing wrong with understanding how that affects them and their loved ones.

Should he? Nope. Will he? I hope not. I really wish we had just kept Lemonis 3 more weeks if this is even an option.

If sweeping Kentucky and Missouri gets Parker the job then we need to load Selmon into a catapult and launch him as far as possible away from here.

The only way it’s a conversation, IMO, if Parker both gets State to a Regional AND advances to a Super or Omaha.

Parker may turn out to eventually be a great head coach but hiring him regardless of what he does tells me every other coach we wanted turned us down.

Would be so Miss. State if we went on a run, barely got in with the last pick (like Ole Miss did) and then win the CWS. Criticism would flood us like a tsunami......but I would love to take our 2nd title regardless. I think we all could handle it, huh?

Criticism for making a change that turned the season around ?? That would only prove that we waited a few weeks too late. And firing....people fire themselves. YOU dont fire people. If they were good at what they do or prepared or cared they would keep their job. They fire themselves by being lazy, incompetent, etc

We thank him for taking the program to a regional, and let him interview for pitching coach with the new coach if he wants. Otherwise he goes on his way.

I'm not sure that would be very "Miss State" of us... but sure, I'd take it.

I also hope I win the lottery one day.

My gut says absolutely not but then I think about what happened with Gary Henderson. He took over as interim of a team in disarray and led us to an improbable deep Omaha run. But at the end of the season we passed him over for.........Chris Lemonis. In retrospect, I wonder if we would have been better off keeping Henderson. Probably not but can't help but think what if.

The right answer is hire someone with a proven track record at our level. Even if that is a current assistant like Coggin

He get a look?
Most people here will probably say no, given our recent history with ZA. I’ve never met Parker and know nothing about him beyond what I’ve read here. But if he has it, you absolutely give him an interview. Dan was just an OC when we hired him, and that turned out to be one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. Even with his eventual downfall, Cann was building a powerhouse. Some people just have that rare quality—and when you see it, you don’t pass on it.

If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle.
Up until a few years ago this would have been true. Now days, not so much!
