He's gone then. 6 wins IS NOT happening. This football program is at the lowest point any of have seen it in a quarter of a century, and that's being generous. Miserable fundamentals everywhere you look except for where some players are just taking matters into their own hands (e.g. Jordan Jones doing his own head hunting, obviously in contrast to overall defensive schemes, and thank god for it).
Blocking on the offensive line is wretched. Our most experienced player, Toth, hasn't been coached well enough to understand where to position himself. Several times against the 4-3 stepping too far forward to engage a non-participating middle linebacker (intends to float while play develops), only to allow a DT to move laterally right behind him and shut down the run for what, for a brief second or so, there had actually been a running lane. Such a simple way for a defense to shut down the run (middle linebacker teases the center with a 1/2 step toward him), and Toth goes for it time and time again, allowing DTs to operate right behind Toth with plenty of room. Then Toth is looking around for somebody to block . . . anybody to block. Just agonizing how our staff can't fix something so simple like this. This is probably why Stoops doesn't like the 4-3, he obviously doesn't know how an offensive line is supposed to block against one. And if all our OL is practicing against is a 3-4 then that is a HUGE problem by itself, and would go a long way toward explaining why Toth keeps stupidly moving too far forward against the 4-3.
