What has happened with Brownlee and Whitney?

Maybe I missed something, but I thought Brownlee was going to be the centerfielder and Whitney one of our top pitchers.

He banged his shoulder up real bad diving for a ball last weekend against SELU. He is supposed to come back soon, but he seems pretty injury prone. I actually wouldn't be surprised if after several weeks they end up putting him on the DL. I don't know if he will ever be healthy enough to contribute. I wish the best for him and hope he gets better soon.

I think Tyler is a victim of circumstance. Cohen is starting whoever he feels gives us the best chance to win based on how the other teams lineup does against LH vs. RH, which is why Whitney missed the start against SELU last week. Cohen started Corey Collins instead. And at the same time, he is trying to evaluate the freshmen- like Luke Bole who started today and missed a start last week against South Alabama because of the "weather", so Cohen wanted to get him another start.

I would look for Whitney to start against Western Kentucky on Tuesday, because he needs to start a game desperately before SEC play which starts in a couple of weeks. Cohen may try to limit his innings and possibly pitch him on Sunday next week as well, depending on how he pitches Weds.

We can do a lot of things next weekend with our pitching staff because next week during the midweek we play Valley, and we could get away with a freshman starting or a bullpen game and still be OK.

I'm thinking this may be the best group of freshmen pitchers Msu has ever had at one time. They really do look good, I guess when SEC starts we'll find out but I got the feeling they are gonna be special!

I think it's the best since we had the group in 1992 with Carlton Loewer, Gary Rath, Kyle Kennedy, and Scott Tankersley.

And I think that this group is better. We got a legit closer of the future in Ben Bracewell, a legit set-up/closer in Kendall Graveman, and then we have three guys that I think are potential weekend starters in Stratton, CC Watson, Luke Bole, and Chad Girodo. And then next year we get Daryl Norris and Wes Rea.

In two years, we may very well have the best staff in the SEC because I think at this point that Nick Routt and Devin Jones are four year guys.

breaking ball. His control was bad and he looks like he needs some more weight, maybe with some serious weight training hell be ok. I'm not familiar with him what do you know about him?

he could have some nasty stuff in the future with some added bodyweight and better control. And if the kid from tupelo gains some weight and adds a third pitch, he will be a stud. There is definitely alot of potential among all of these true freshmen.

And you're dead on about him needing to gain muscle. He is only 180, and he is 6'5". He is a project that I think has a really high upside, and I think he could be a starter by his senior year should someone like Stratton, Watson, Bole, etc. go in the draft, which is a good possibility three years from now. His fastball only tops out in the mid 80's or so, but if he works hard in the weight room and stays healthy, he could be throwing in the low 90's by the time he is a senior. Even if he doesn't blow people away, he has the good curve which he can use to change speeds on people.

As far as this year, I expect him to be a long relief guy, and he may get a start or two against a SWAC team, and in the next few years, he will be a middle relief guy, possible midweek starter. Considering the other pitchers we have, he is a good project to take a chance on.

is Jared Miller from Sumrall. He is 6'4" and he is also sort of like Lane in that he is a project. He throws harder than Lane, but he also has some consistency issues. But he is another guy that I think will eventually pitch for us a little this year and will help us out down the road.
