WVU COMPETITION IN 1993 WAS MUCH TOUGHER THAN IN 1988 WHEN THE MOUNTAINEERS BEAT ONLY TWO TEAMS WITH A WINNING RECORD.
So in all the years that Penn State - even Pitt won National Titles and WVU has played for decades on end, it’s the Mountaineers fault that they (along with Boston College) they had a down year? Let’s remember that the return game with Ohio State was moved and WVU had to get Cal State Fullerton. But I think that OSU not up to their standards in 88 either.

I think we all don’t give credit to Don Nehlen for getting WVU to schedule all those schools 15-20 years before he was even offered the job. Brilliant!

I SHARE YOUR APPRECIATION OF DON NEHLEN. HE ROSE WVU UP IN THE NATIONAL IMAGE AND WAS A GREAT NETWORKER AMONG COACHES AROUND THE COUNTRY WHICH HELPED MY ALMA MATER. AND THE 1988 SEASON AGAINST ONLY 2 WINNING TEAMS WAS NOT DON'S FAULT, OBVIOUSLY, BUT IT IS A FAIR FACT TO BRING UP. CLARENCE "DOC" SPEARS IN 1922 HAD THE ONLY FOOTBALL TEAM IN WVU HISTORY TO NOT LOSE ANY OF ITS 11 GAMES, INCLUDING THE EAST-WEST CLASSIC POST-SEASON EVENT AGAINST GONZAGA. MAYBE THE BEST TEAM IN AMERICA THAT YEAR BUT THEY DIDN'T NAME NATIONAL CHAMPS BY THEN SO IT'S ONLY MY WORD AGAINST THE WORLD. YOU SIDING WITH THE WORLD OR ME AS A WVU FAN?

Never side with any doofus who screams in all caps or relies on obtuse arguments. That would be you FSW.

There were four schools that finished undefeated and untied (Princeton, California, Iowa and Cornell) that would be ahead of WVU, if there was a poll selection. I think the world at best put WVU 5th.
