What if WSU had the same mentality as some of you?

Lebby has nothing to do with Leach. If Leach had been a first time coach at Washington State, maybe they would have fired him after year 3 with those results. Or maybe they wouldn't have. Who knows?
Yes he does in this scenario. Are you stupid?

The entire point of this is people being emotional and bich ing about firing someone. We both agree Mike Leach shouldn't have been fired at WSU. We both agree if he had a slow start at MSU he shouldn't be fired. BUT there are morons who would say he should be fired!! They are morons in both cases. Mike Leach and Lebby.

Lebby went 5-7 with very little talent. He almost went 8-4 and yes he almost went 4-8. But He did that against teams that were more talented. Thats coaching. He deserves year 3 and hes gonna get it b/c our AD is smarter than some of you morons. Luckily WSU's AD was smart enough to not fire Leach, but i guarantee you some idiots online wanted him fired BECAUSE THEY ARE IDIOTS.

So you are saying Lebby coached up this lack of talent team to potentially get to 7 wins? Seems like he overachieved then.
I’m saying Lebby blew 2 wins he should have had. In your quest to defend a coach with 1 conference win in 2 years, you can take it to mean whatever you want. Through 2 seasons, Lebby’s career conference wins is closer to that of Chad Morris than even the powerhouse coach Sylvester croom. For what it’s worth, I hope you’re right. I want Lebby to be a good coach. But I don’t see anything to be positive about thus far. Maybe next year someone will have 18 penalties for 193 yards and we can pick up another conference win at the last second!

No, the reasons that Washington State kept Leach don't apply to Lebby. Primarily that Leach had had 10 years of success as the head coach at Texas Tech, but also the fact that nobody at Washington State really cares about football (they averaged<30,000 fans per game before they got left behind), and also that Leach had at least made a bowl and had 5 conference wins by the end of year 2 and 7 by the end of year 3.

None of those are reasons that Mississippi State decided to keep Lebby. It's two completely and fundamentally different situations that have nothing in common.

I’ve made counter arguments and you just ignore them!

SUB100
You just keep spamming that Washington State was right to not fire Leach, therefore we are right not to fire Lebby, but even from a pro-Lebby perspective, that argument doesn't work because they were entirely different situations.

There's a far better example of your argument (which is still weak, because most coaches who start out with bad records like 1-15 don't become good later on, even if a few of them do) in the SEC right now with Clark Lea, who was a first time head coach, had a more similar record, and came from a similar profile school.

If I were wrong, you would make a counterargument. People only start desperately slinging insults when they've got nothing else.
Nearly every argument he’s made is deeply flawed… he knows that and that’s why he’s resorted to calling people stupid and low IQ. He’s trying to compare leach and Lebby all while completely ignoring Leach’s success prior to Washington state and ignoring that leach went to a bowl game in year 2.

His basis for Lebby being a good coach is that Mullen won 5 games in year 1 and Lebby won 5 games in year 2 and we know Mullen can coach, so therefore Lebby can coach. Not sure that the 2 have anything to do with each other.

And every argument he makes ignores the fact that in this era of the transfer portal, it shouldn’t take 3 years to recruit a decent roster. Lebby has no one but himself to blame for not being able to find an NFL talent.

Mullen recruited 6 of those NFL players on his very first team. Maybe lebby should learn how to identify these guys.
You clearly can’t read. Or comprehend. Or both.

But it was 5 and they were likely coming whether it was Mullen or more croom.

Mullen’s first class had

Banks
Boyd
Cox
Gabe jackson
Mcphee
Chris white

Darius slay was also in this class but had to go juco.

Its like some of you idiots forget you have access to the internet.

We lost 9 of the top 12 production on defense from 2023 to 2024 including:

Nathaniel Watson - 6th round nfl draft pick
Jayden Crumedy - 6th round nfl draft pick
Decamerion Richardson - 4th round nfl draft pick
Jett Johnson - who was in top 3 in tackles in 2022 and top 2 in 2023

Lebby's had 2 years to find two 17ing linemen and a GD LB dick-hole.

12-25 in his first 3 seasons

3 losing records
Two 3 win seasons

Much easier schedule.

Guess the coach.
We'd be bowl prepping right this moment if these scenarios were comparable. Their first bowl game in a decade surely warmed up a ton of fans in Yr 2. There's no way the fans were down on him at similar points in the time span.

Regardless, no we shouldn't fire Lebby now. And I can't tell you if we should or shouldn't at end of Yr 3 until we see how it plays out. A solid signing day yesterday hopefully points to a solid portal haul. Make some smart staff changes and learn from past game management fails and we are bowling in Yr 3 IMO.

this is all you had to say

we agree
Indeed we do as far as being patient for another year.

We disagree on comparability to WSU as they were likely thrilled at end of Yr 2 having been rewarded with a postseason after a decade.

Our fans have a reason to be pessimistic still being in that drought. Their's did not. Apples / oranges.

This is exactly the difference. He had already proven himself able to build a program out of a historic non-contender.

The environment is also completely different now. The portal means coaches get a chance to quickly fill in gaps versus having to spend years building up a recruiting pipeline or recruit JUCOs (who count against your limit on recruiting out of high school). Even now a proven head coach probably only gets three years to put together a winning season.

Pullman, Washington is also a lot harder to recruit to than Starkville. It's a beautiful part of the country, but it's far more remote and your family probably isn't going to be making it to many games. The nearest big city is Seattle, which is about as far away from Pullman as Atlanta is from Starkville.
Starkville is pretty dang hard to recruit to. If WSU was in the SEC they might do better in recruiting

What do you and others not get about this simple statement.

If leach had done what he did our WSU, the same fans calling for Lebby to be fired would call for Leach to be fired. WHICH IS STUPID.

Because you are wrong. Some of them might have, but most people who wanted to fire Lebby this year would have been more comfortable giving him longer if he had been a successful coach for 10 years somewhere else. You can't handwave that key difference away.

Additionally, there seems to be a fairly strong inverse correlation between Lebby and Leach fans anyway, with Lebby's supporters often still blaming Leach for Lebby's failures. As the #1 Leach fanboy on the boards, I definitely see the people I remember as Leach supporters not thinking highly of Lebby, and vice versa. Not 100% of either, but close. (There may be an additional variable impacting people's opinions of both coaches rather than a direct causal link between the two.)

Best post in this thread. Lebby should not be fired. We all saw improvement over year 1 and the recruiting for any coach at State is limited by NIL funding. Same for Mullen because we all know what went on under the table with the caveat that it was cheaper to buy players so he got some gems. Let's give him one more year and if he doesn't shuffle the defensive coaching situation ithey will take him down with the ship.

A thread full of everyone telling you the comparison you made was silly…. But everyone is wrong and you’re right.

Just take the L and move on. I think most reasonable people, myself included, would agree the fair thing is to give Lebby a third year. Now I think where people disagree is if there was truly improvement this year or not and if Lebby has really displayed anything that gives you hope next year will be different. I’m squarely in the camp of expecting Lebby to be fired after next season and I certainly wouldn’t care if he was fired today. But I definitely didn’t expect him to be fired and 100% understand why the people in charge want to give him another year.

not sure why people get so damn emotional this time of year
Yeah that’s my point. Leave the emotions out of coaching decisions.

look at the entire body of work
Lebby has done more with less this year?

does he need to hit the portal hard? Yes
