What is so wrong with the Power-I?

Iso, counter, trap.

If your feeling nostalgic search "counter sweep" and watch the video under "power running game counter/sweep" entitled "the counter". It is a thing of beauty. Many of the plays are Nebraska (wearing black shoes - maybe that's the trick). So deadly when properly set up and executed.

There is also an iso play video - the narrator calls it a mono on mono play attacking the middle linebacker. Love it.

But for shear artistry the counter is my favorite. Get them stepping the wrong way crush them with massive lineman blocks that keep them going the wrong way while the I back follows a pulling guard and a fullback into the chaos the defensive is enduring.

When you watch the video referenced above you understand why TO says there is not enough time to be a great running team and and great passing team. To get the kind of choreography needed for the blocking takes a tremendous amount of reps.

Nothing is wrong with the Power I BUT we have to have a reliable passing threat as well. Once good defenses shut down your running game, you're toast. That was the problem under Solich.

Our problem right now is our offense can't do anything great. It has no identity hence all of the 3 and outs.

whats wrong with the power I?
as keith jackson would say FUMMMMBEL!

when solich took the reins, for some reason his backs turned into fumbeltrons..(see: dan and buck)
so solich went full one dimentional, see crouch right , crouch left. which cu and mu exposed..and carried on thru mr jamel lord.
to run the power I "proper"..one must hold on to the ball. and have a serious work horse at I back.

but there's more,
one also needs a serious run pass qb, a fullback, tight ends and receiver that can block and catch. and of course a oline consisting of monsters.

but there's more,
one must also have a coach that can used these weapons in a systematic way to cause defense not to put 8 men in the box and just focus on the I back.
See: Dr. Thomas Osborne

so in conclusion, there's nothing wrong with a power I, "contrary to the pass happy skybox crowd view"
but to run it, it takes a group of men with the metal to be called Huskers.
