What Mark Stoops wants?

Ughh, I give up.

-The man has hired 2 different Air Raid OCs.
-He hired Brown telling him that he wants a slightly more balanced Air Raid attack that adjust according to the personnel....like Oklahoma State.
-throw rate has increased significantly each yr
-Both of Mark's brothers (Bob and Mike) have hired an Air Raid guy

We can't execute the passing game yet.....so we have to run.

You have seen it tonight, but the only problem is it will not work in the SEC...
What I saw tonight was bigger faster O-line, bigger faster D-line.
Better receivers. Hell of a lot better blocking for faster running backs.
Why won't that work in the SEC?

If we are picking up yardage the way we were last night on the ground, why stop? The second half last night was about protecting the ball and not trying to embarrass the opponent, (though I have a different opinion about that) Charlotte, embarrassed themselves by allowing us to break off the big runs.

As for my differing opinion, I was glad the score ended up the way it did. When I watch other high powered offensive teams show no mercy and run up 70+ on lesser opponents, I long for the days when we can do that. We've always tried to play nice and sometimes it's come back to bite us in the ***. This is big boy football, and those teams are getting a handsome payday to come in here, there should be no mercy until the last 2 minutes of the game.

Quite frankly, I wouldn't have minded Reese Phillips getting into the game the last couple of series and at least given the chance to throw a couple of passes.

You are not serious, right? So you are saying uncc is close to being an sec level team...if you expect that ,even with just an average team like Otis you are going to be very disappointed

Not saying that at all.
The point I was trying to make was when you have better talent, size and speed.
The op thread was what Stoops wants will not win.
What coach would not want a huge advantage of talent over your opponent?

Agree we won't be competitive in the SEC as a running team. Not sure last night revealed Stoops' hand. Why should he show his cards with Petrino waiting in the wings?

What cards? I'm as big as a UK fan as they come but seriously, we are pretty easy to figure out.

It hasn't worked in the SEC because the Oline is in the bottom level of the conference. If the incoming recruits are as good as they are on paper you will see KY become a more physical offense in the SEC.

You can never say never, but past history (50+yrs ) says we will never recruit the type of ol to allow us to do it

Trying to believe we have a chance Saturday. Last year, they ONLY reason ul beat us was that they had to bring in a qb we had not prepared for. Hoping that Stoops/Dawson have some plays that they did not show that will better complement Barker's specific skills. If there are any such plays/throws, we have not seen them either.

That's why a Mumme type system works best for us. Linemen don't have to sustain blocks, just hold them off long enough for qb to make quick throws. Key to the whole thing is having a very accurate...i e Tim Couch like qb.

The qb change wouldn't have mattered if not for D.Parker

The Mumme system does not work as well today as it did when he was here. Teams have learned to crowd the box and bump receivers; cut off angles; etc. AND it never was effective in the red zone.
I agree Stoops wants to run the ball more but I also believe when he gets a team that is capable of holding the line for more than 2 to 3 seconds and an accurate, consistent passing game he will throw it more.
Give him 5 years to recruit depth up front and we will see if he can coach it!

Thank You!

or as some posters would have it, lets change coaches every year so we can build a TEAM!

One thing that history has showed us, is that run oriented teams definitely can't compete in the SEC o_O
Trucat I have to disagree with that comment unless you are talking about UK. Teams that are not loaded with elite talent have to use different tactics to compete with the more physical teams like using their quickness with spread offense and pass a lot.

There are also teams in SEC that depend on the running game, of course they also have the talent to do either. Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, and LSU just to name a few.

Right now UK has to use the gimmick offenses because they don't have enough physical talent to stay with the big boys. Personally I had rather them use the running game like 60-40 when they have the players to do so.

So really it depends what type athletes you have. Although the majority of teams have gone to the passing game. the running game is still here. jmho

That was sarcasm, my friend.
