What I saw tonight was bigger faster O-line, bigger faster D-line.You have seen it tonight, but the only problem is it will not work in the SEC...
You are not serious, right? So you are saying uncc is close to being an sec level team...if you expect that ,even with just an average team like Otis you are going to be very disappointedWhat I saw tonight was bigger faster O-line, bigger faster D-line.
Better receivers. Hell of a lot better blocking for faster running backs.
Why won't that work in the SEC?
2-12 in SEC last 2 years according to TV[/QUOTE]Why won't that work in the SEC?
Not saying that at all.You are not serious, right? So you are saying uncc is close to being an sec level team...if you expect that ,even with just an average team like Otis you are going to be very disappointed
Agree we won't be competitive in the SEC as a running team. Not sure last night revealed Stoops' hand. Why should he show his cards with Petrino waiting in the wings?
You can never say never, but past history (50+yrs ) says we will never recruit the type of ol to allow us to do itAgree we won't be competitive in the SEC as a running team. Not sure last night revealed Stoops' hand. Why should he show his cards with Petrino waiting in the wings?
Trying to believe we have a chance Saturday. Last year, they ONLY reason ul beat us was that they had to bring in a qb we had not prepared for. Hoping that Stoops/Dawson have some plays that they did not show that will better complement Barker's specific skills. If there are any such plays/throws, we have not seen them either. What cards? I'm as big as a UK fan as they come but seriously, we are pretty easy to figure out.
That's why a Mumme type system works best for us. Linemen don't have to sustain blocks, just hold them off long enough for qb to make quick throws. Key to the whole thing is having a very accurate...i e Tim Couch like qb.H

The qb change wouldn't have mattered if not for D.ParkerTrying to believe we have a chance Saturday. Last year, they ONLY reason ul beat us was that they had to bring in a qb we had not prepared for. The Mumme system does not work as well today as it did when he was here. Teams have learned to crowd the box and bump receivers; cut off angles; etc. AND it never was effective in the red zone.
I agree Stoops wants to run the ball more but I also believe when he gets a team that is capable of holding the line for more than 2 to 3 seconds and an accurate, consistent passing game he will throw it more.
Give him 5 years to recruit depth up front and we will see if he can coach it!
Bingo. And I'm all for it if Stoops can get the line where it needs to be for us to do it.One thing that history has showed us, is that run oriented teams definitely can't compete in the SEC![]()
Trucat I have to disagree with that comment unless you are talking about UK. Teams that are not loaded with elite talent have to use different tactics to compete with the more physical teams like using their quickness with spread offense and pass a lot.One thing that history has showed us, is that run oriented teams definitely can't compete in the SEC![]()
That was sarcasm, my friend.Trucat I have to disagree with that comment unless you are talking about UK. Teams that are not loaded with elite talent have to use different tactics to compete with the more physical teams like using their quickness with spread offense and pass a lot.
There are also teams in SEC that depend on the running game, of course they also have the talent to do either. Alabama, Georgia, Auburn, and LSU just to name a few.
Right now UK has to use the gimmick offenses because they don't have enough physical talent to stay with the big boys. Personally I had rather them use the running game like 60-40 when they have the players to do so.
So really it depends what type athletes you have. Although the majority of teams have gone to the passing game. the running game is still here. jmho
