What not a 16-team football playoff?

Article says 12-team playoff is getting the most attention.

16-team playoffs would take the same amount of time (16, 8, 4, 2) so why the odd-ball measure?

All Power-5 champs, best of the Group of 5 for a possible Cinderella, then the 12 teams ranked highest by the selection committee.

It would be January Madness instead of March Madness. No one gets an advantage through a bye.

Is it too much common sense to be adopted?

The committee wants baby steps and tv wants 4 teams in every year only, so getting 16 is very unlikely. 12 will probably be a tough sell.

Probably has alot to do with what they can work out with the bowls and how much revenue they can generate.

16 would be fine with me. Start in December and roll on to January.

But 8 at the moment woul be best. You don't want to muddy up the water with 8 win SEC teams.

Screw the bowls. Stop being tied to the bowls. That's why were are stuck at 4.

Cut seasons by one eliminating the give me game everyone plays. Tournament starts two weeks after conference champs are crowned. Allow time for one more game added to have a 10 team playoff format. Five P5 conference winners and highest ranked non P5 are automatically in. Other four chosen by committee...they would be paired up with winning two added to the finals of eight teams. Utilize best bowl games throughout the tournament.

It's the Art of the Deal. Argue for 12 teams, and settle for 8 teams, which is what they were truly after.

Bottom line: ESPN and FOX will let them know if they can expand or not. Money drives the bus.

Why would you have to cut a game for? Makes no sense.
Because college presidents are...and will...stand in the way of a even longer season that would come with expanded playoff. So...dump the give me game...compress the season...and add schools to playoff mix. Win.win.

Money changes minds. The seasons are no longer than they normally are.

Only if the have nots get the same cut. If not the blue bloods get richer and the the rest become even more irrelevant.

I‘ve always felt a 16 team playoff played at Bowl sites could save the Bowl tradition. The 15 games could be played throughout the Bowl sites and share revenue to make everything work. Top 2 teams from each P5 Conference, top 2 G5 and some selection of last 4 in. Max out 3 from one conference. Just a thought.
