I don’t need to defend the coach. He’s 4-2, exactly what he should be. You’re attacking the coach without providing him the support he needs to beat better opponents. That is unfair.
Schiano has plenty of support. Give your demand for more money a rest. If you're happy with mediocrity and only being able to beat bad teams and being generally noncompetitive the rest of the time then have fun. Don't expect everyone else to wet their pants and write checks, though.

Not as much support as Wisconsin. They had 74,885 people in the stadium.

This is why your comments are off base.

The same rule applies to us. We lose most Big Ten games because we rarely score more than 13 or 14 points. So far this year, the only Big Ten victory is the game where they scored 24 against Northwestern.

I just looked all Big Ten games this year (OOC and conference).

Only one game had a winner score less than 20:
First game of the year Minnesota over Nebraska 13-10.
Every other team scored over 20pts.

So even Big Ten teams are scoring to win.
Everyone jokes bout Iowa but they scored 20pts in all 5 of their wins.

We're dead in the water until we have an offense that can score 21+ points every game. We don't have that offense so far.

That's crazy! Are you saying we need to score more than our opponent to win?

Ha.
You should direct that to HC Schiano and OC KC.

Thinking "we dont have to score as long as our opponents don't score any points either" is even crazier.

Yes they are conservative. No they don't think that "we don't have to score". They understand that turnovers often win and lose games and we don't yet have the offensive talent to get into shootouts with more talented teams. So preventing and creating turnovers is the priority right now for this program.

Hence "The Ball is the Program".

Urban Meyer understands that.

The afraid to make a mistake offense will lose more than win against good programs and make those on the same level be able to defend better knowing taking chances isn't part of RU's playbook .
Rutgers seems to have QBs that aren't completely trusted to take chances and that gives an edge to the opponent's D
RU must start having an offense that can't be defended easily so it's D isn't expected to keep the opponent in check every series in order to win
RU can be a pretty good program depending in the D , but without a O that can move the chains consistently Rutgers won't be a good program.

The days of "we'll just win 17-13" as an offensive philosophy are long gone.
Even Ohio State tried to run at the beginning of their game but Maryland took the lead and Ohio State needed to pass to score more points. Passing is now the entire game of college football or even the NFL. Why are the Jets and Giants losing? No QB

Yes our offense isn't there yet. Our defense is. You play to your strength. Iowa has done this for ages.

Our OLine simply lacks talent although they seem very well coached . Our receivers are decent and have some young talent, our QB is inaccurate but can run and can be a solid game manager at this point. Our RB room is very good.

You can't just force the offense to do something they are not built for. Remember Ashs idiot OC who was running the power spread with Laviano?

4-2 is where most hoped we would get to.

The main differentiator of 2023 is that we aren’t getting our doors blown off in losses (like the Ash teams and like the 2023 NY Giants).

I somehow hoped for 4-2 but expected 3-3. What I really wanted to see was that the team was playing better. And it is.
We have drastically reduced penalties. We have made a huge improvement with turnovers. OL is night and day better even if it isn't great- but you can see they are coached so much better. We have a legit defense and even if the score was not close- the number 2 team in college football, did not embarrass us and we have, to date, given Michigan their toughest game.
Wisc has blown us out often and having the game as close as it was, was again- just a better team we are putting out there.
Maybe the 2021/2022 teams could be 4-2 but they also would have been embarrassed by both Mich and Wisc.

This year they scored 24 against Northwestern. Last year it was 24 against Indiana and 21 against MSU. The year before it was 38 against Illinois. That's really bad and all the other 1 to 2 TD games were clearly not enough to win. Two TDs doesn't win you many games in any conference and never will. Even 3 won't.

Many if not most B1G games are battles where the winning team ends in the 20-30 points range.

This isn't the B12.

You know things are moving in the right direction when the crazies want to fire everyone for not winning on the road at Wisconsin in a game that turned on a couple of plays.

Program is focused and improving. A lot of work put in. Well done. Keep Choppin!
I question if those fans are really fans and not imposters that have loyalties to other teams. Coach Schiano has the team on the right track and they are improving every game. The "crazies" ***** and complain about everything and thats all they do. I will continue to support coach Schiano as I believe the program is getting better and growing. Coach Schiano is going to get us there! Go RU!

Just wanted to clarify that Iowa has yet to score 20 offensive points against a power opponent.

They had a pick 6 vs ISU, a punt return vs Michigan State and had an interception vs Purdue that resulted in a FG (-4 yards drive so that can’t be considered offensive points in my book).

under the same concept- we have given up >17 to only one P5 team and that was only 24 pts to the number 2 team in the country...

Admittedly, I've written some moronic things over the years. I got some things wrong.

You've had your share, too.

But come on, man. Who's coming to Rutgers to play in that half empty stadium, getting their butts whooped.? This programs natural place is 50th in the country, maybe 75th. I know, I've been watching for 40 years. Coaches are finished upon arrival in this place. The only way out is for some maniac to work a bunch of super achieving, hungry, underrated believers into a physical condition and mental confidence, OVER YEARS, to go compete with teams that are just taking in all stars, at every position, every year, for years. It's mission impossible for 99% of coaches.

That process of taking a team that got BLOWN OFF THE FIELD BY BUFFALO, to respectable or better, is a beautiful thing to watch as a fan. These kids are trying so hard, working so hard, to get over the hump and they're right there now. Physically, they are competing like no other Rutgers B1G team has since the squad Schiano left for Flood, with my all time favorite RU player, two star, Khaseem Greene leading the way. All grit and hard work.

I'm really enjoying watching this. One of my favorite anecdotes this year was when the Michigan kid said, "They thought they were the bullies..." That's freakin awesome. Rutgers kids going into the Big House to play the #2 team in the country, giving off bully vibes. It's totally happening.

We're just getting into the competitive zone. Best is yet to come. Patience. Positivity.

Peace.
