Look, who knows how good Shumpert will by the time his career ends. He could end up as the best running back in our history, or he could end up like Robert Elliot, a role the player that had injures derail his career. No one knows what will become of Shumpert in the rough neighborhood known as the SEC West. However, with all that said, what the Shumpert commitment does mean, is that despite the negatives of the past couple months, our program, from a talent, facility, and competitive standpoint, is continuing to move forward. For the first time in our history, our university is without a doubt committed to winning in football. We are building some of the nicest facilities in the country, and we are now beginning, I said beginning, to recruit with the big boys. We certainly have a long way to go, but despite our offensive, defensive, and special teams struggles, talent is the most important ingredient. We now have the number 13 recruiting class on Scout, Chris Jones isn't even a 5* yet, and number 11 on 247. Furthermore, this year was supposed to be the year that OM had connections with many of the State's top players, and the 2014 class in MS is supposed to be loaded and deep with talent. Many of those are said to have connections to MSU. We will have a full year with Brewster recruiting, and another year of better understanding how to recruit the South and Mississippi.
We used to be a program that ran some 2*, a lot of 3*, and few 4* out there on Saturdays. However, soon we will be a program that runs no 2*, a few 3*, a lot of 4*, and a few 5* out there on Saturdays. There is no doubt that we must make some improvements in our schemes, but remember that every school, even Alabama, sometimes has to do that. Talent is the key, and the Shumpert commitment further displays that we are getting OUR act together in that department. No matter what OM signs, we will sign a great great class that basically matches theirs, and dare I say could be better.
