Good read, Todd.

Great points about Paul Mangina too. He sounded like a whiny little puss. It is very obvious that it worked....that was in the 1st or 2nd inning, and they were still fuming about it after the game. Mission accomplished. Graveman manned the 17 up today, and showed that experience and leadership. I love the way that guy battles and leaves everything out there. He'd throw 200 pitches per start if Cohen would let him.

I would like for Woodruff to be in the rotation after Kentucky, if not against them Sunday.

Also, as you mentioned we are headed to the Funland known as Cliff Hagan stadium. Porters big bat must be in the lineup at that tee ball field.

Its amazing what happens to an offense when you play your best hitters. Slauter CANNOT sit at all on the weekends going forth. It's asinine.

Is definitely a possibility and it's something that can't be ruled out at this point. I would say that Sunday against UK is also possible as well- but as you know it's all going to depend on how he looks against Alcorn of course, so we will know more Tuesday. We could limit his pitch count to say, 50 against Alcorn and then let Pollorena pick up for him and then I think Sunday against UK would be possible.

I do agree that we need Slauter in the lineup a majority of the time- we can DH him when he isn't catching. Also agree about Porter- I felt bad for him when his home run got robbed from him today.

should be noted that Saturday paid attendance was 9341... so you weren't nearly as far off on your numbers as you mention in the article...

That's awesome! Maybe we can break 10K for Florida. That should be another hotly contested series since O'Sullivan and Cohen are good friends.**

Good stuff.

- Cohen needs to stop this resting Slauter mess, at least on the weekends. There's no way Ammo should be playing on the weekends. Let him play on Tuesdays, but that's it. Slauter is just too valuable defensively to not be out there. Hell, he caught nearly every freaken game last year. Hann and Britton shouldn't be out there, either.

- I'm glad Graveman had the balls to send a message. It's part of the game that most have gotten too sensitive about. I was beginning to think were were going to bring out a tee for that guy.

- It's good to see Pirtle trying to break out of the Fantastic 4 club. He's got some pop from both sides, and he's far and away the best defensive option at second.

- Norris is really making all of this difficult. He had a solid freshman season and really looked like he was going to have a great season until his injury last year. He doesn't look very mobile out in the field, and he hasn't been impressive at the plate. While has average isn't terrible, he strikes out too much, and he hasn't been coming through in RBI ops. If he could just get it together, we could put an end to this "Frittann" mess.

- Henderson is frustrating, too. He makes good plays in the outfield, but he hit into 19 double plays (unofficial estimate) this weekend. Cohen gave him a good lesson on contacting a baseball softly without swinging in order to advance a runner before his first AB yesterday. In fact, it looked more like an ultimatum.

- Frazier, Bradford, Renfroe, Detz, Rea, and Slauter should be in the lineup in every conference game. It doesn't matter who's pitching.

Why is Cohen even resting Slaughter to begin with? He didn't do it earlier in his career. And really, catching 4 games a week isn't asking much of a catcher to begin with. It's one thing in the majors where they play every day to rest a catcher for a day game following a night game. But he just had 2 days off (and 3 out of 4 off) before the Friday game. It's ridiculous to sit your best catcher for 1/3 of the most important games of the season.

Explanation

Can someone with more baseball knowledge explain why we didn't walk Katz with 1B open on Friday night, especially after Lindgren fell behind in the count? I'm just curious because Katz had hit something like 6 homeruns in his last 4 games, and it would seem logical to put him on with 1B open, especially after falling behind in the count. Sorry if this has already been discussed but I didn't find it anywhere and wondering if I'm missing something or it was just a bad decision.

I was fine with lindgren pitching to him early on. Usually, you don't walk a guy if he hasn't shown you he's hot. Now in the 10th, we had zero business, not only bringing brown in, but letting him pitch to him after he fell behind. That's an instance you just put him on base and make someone else beat you, even with a runner at first with 0 outs.

I was thinking Katz would be an automatic IBB in the 10th, personally. I think that would have allowed Bracewell to stay in, too (who was throwing well).

I agree. If he bombs you once, tip your cap....bombs you a second time, there are no excuses for that. And a third time on Saturday? Geez. Luckily Graveman manned up and showed how you handle a guy like that.

He's rested now. He should be good to go for the next 27 conference games.

If anything, Garner should be the one playing behind Slauter, if he's indeed projected to start next year. You gain nothing by sending an inexperienced senior out there. I appreciate Ammo's effort, but there's a balance between rewarding an upperclassman for putting in the time and sending out the greenhorns to let them get to bumps and bruises.

Nice article. I am proud our fans have reacted this way. Standing behind our team after a frustrating game 1 and 2. I agree it will bond the team.

Where did the love loss from manjeri and Cohen originate? I think it was prior to last years tourney.

I think we were pitching around him, and the 3-1 pitch missed its spot. I think if we would've wanted to pitch to him, Cohen would've gone ahead and brought in Gentry, who came in to face the next batter (and would've been R vs R matchup).

I hear this Cohen cat likes to work the matchups...

You are knowledgeable, but your writing could use some subtle help.

I'm not trying to piss you off because I know how this board is. But, if you are going to write these pieces, there are a couple of things that would help.

Anytime you put "I feel" or "I think" in a sentence, you should immediately strike it out and read the sentence without it. You will see it is completely unnecessary. First, it is an opinion type piece so the reader already knows it is what you "think" or "feel." Second, it serves only to weaken your point. By leaving it out, it makes it more of an affirmative statement, which will tend to persuade your reader that it is a fact - even if that is not your intent (but we all know that deep down it really is). Finally, it makes it read much easier. Don't muddy up your writing with a bunch of unnecessary phrases.

Which takes me to my next point. (see what I did there - unnecessary and wordy transition). Avoid these as well. Words like "Next," "Additionally" "Further" serve the same purpose with a lot less words.

I fully expect to be banned for this post. But, you should still try it in your next article.

good stuff.

funny how "hard nosed" baseball is looked down upon these days. i do like the fact that cohen is extremely hard nosed and his teams definitely take that on. he is not worried about bein friends with his counter parts...he just wants to win.

Remember, we wanted him as Head Coach after Pat MacMahon left. LT wimped out and got Ron Polk back. Still think Manieri's a good coach, his team took 2 of 3 from us.

That said, we should've plinked Katz Saturday.
