What will Husker look like next year without threat of QB run?

Approximately 50% of the run game can be attributed to the QB. How will the offense work next year without that.

Without the three dots yesterday, it is 20 for 33 which is slightly over 60%

But TA doesnt yet IMO have the respect of opposing coaches as far as his passing ability to keep them honest in pass coverage. Reputation is a funny thing. You notice on his TD run at the end how they feared his passing a little more.

we may actually be more apt to run on 2nd and 8 or 9 than we do now

we have essentially a 50% passer right now which means to complete one pass to get the first down you have to give it 2 tries

if you push the completion percentage up to 60-70% you can run the ball on 2nd and 8 and even if you gain nothing you have a reasonable chance on third and long and even better on 3rd and 4 or 5

I know it is counterintuitive

IF POB happens to be the QB, there will still be some semblance of a QB run threat......Not to the degree we have now but POB is a mobile QB.

Don't mean to dog Tommie but better decision making would come to mind.
We got to see some of the best of TA yesterday along with some bad TA moments. Fortunately only one of his bad moments cost us a turnover and points. He made a couple of bad decisions in the passing game that didn't hurt us......whew. The point to remember is that we probably don't win that game without him. What a gamer.

No question he wasn't perfect but he may have played his best game being hampered with cramps he was a warrior and he showed us his guts. Just wish we would quiet chucking it the air hoping the ball will find another teammates hands.

RB should have just jumped on the ball on that swing pass turnover instead of trying to pick it up and run.

I think he did try to jump on it. He was trying to chase it down and couldn't jump on it til he caught it from my angle but he was running almost straight away from my seats. Bottomline is that it was a bad decision and bad execution. Should of tucked it and lived for another day. IMO, Newby might have caught that one albeit for a loss.

I think the dropsies are hurting TA a little. Kid is passing at basically a 50% clip, but the WR's seem to be dropping a lot of catchable balls (DPE, Cethan, Morgan and Moore seem to be bit). TA might have been at pretty durn near 60% if not at 60% if they catch what they seemed to catch last year.

How hot was it?? I hope the med staff can prevent this going forward. Didn't see a lot of others on either side cramping. Need to review his pregame prep - nutrition/hydration etc. That could have cost us big time and those things tend to recur more frequently once the cycle has started. I hope we don't have to run him as much in some of the upcoming games but don't think we are quite good enough to expect to win by going vanilla against conference teams

I don't think it should have been tremendously hot on the field. It was a nice day out, but not unreasonably warm.

Yeah we have had some drops, but our WR's are also making some nice plays on some poorly thrown balls, so it is probably evening out. AKA TA is just a 53% passer realistically. Also you can bet some of the drops are due to WR's expecting to be hit since some of the passes have led them right into trouble as they have been off target. AKA led them right into a big hit because the location of the passes have been poor.

He could improve his completion % if he improved his footwork and stepped into more of his throws instead of throwing off of his back foot as much as he does. He could also improve his completion % if he saw more of the field and made the easier passes to guys wide open for an easier degree of difficulty throw wise.

The one group I wouldnt blame for TA's completion % would not be the WR's though.

The Offensive Line will be much improved next year. Devine and Wilbon will be Juniors and Tanner Lee has an NFL arm. We will be just fine next year Offensively. I really think next could be the year we finally get over the hump and win a conference championship

I've wondered the same thing. I think this year Langsdorf has a better handle on how to use a QB like Tommy. That's not just designated QB runs, but also the zone read options. That won't really work without a running threat at QB. I think it'll be a big deal for the running backs next year. I expect more carries for our other backs without a QB running threat.

And really, it'll be more pro-style which I think is what Langsdorf and Riley really want. They'll know how to handle it. It'll just look a lot different that what I've come to expect from a Nebraska offense with a mobile QB. Hopefully we'll have the remainder of the offense that can support such an attack. We lose a lot of pass catchers. We won't have depth at WR nor the threat we've currently got at TE. Younger players will have to step up, and Gates and Knevel need to keep the pocket clean from the outside pass rushers.

it will be rough if we are not getting next years qb some real game reps this year. but I guess thats the result of not properly keeping the shelf stocked, neglecting building depth and the banishment of the 2nd string qb from getting game experience because the first string qb's ego or the coaches fear of the fan base second guessing.

The problem is both 1st and 2nd string QBs are seniors. Third string is redshirting, and next year's likely starter is ineligible. Tough to get next year's QB experience under these circumstances.
