Did you like what Mullen did Saturday and alternate series? Make him more situational where he is used on short yardage and inside the 10? Discuss amongst yourselves.

my heart stops every time he lets a pass go. But he should be at QB every series inside the 10. Had Mullens used him like that vs USCe, and we may have won that game.

you should be able to tell if the passing game is going to click. If it isn't, put Relf in and run option stuff. Put Relf in sporadically inside the 10-15 no matter what.

Egg Bowl, start Relf and make Super T figure it out.

Maybe use Relf as a TE or something in the slot. Let him run routes some or let him motion into the back field. He could either catch it, run it or pull up and pass. I think this could work.

having both as an option depending on who is hot and what the down and yardage situation happens to be. Mix it up.

I'm typically against alternating, but we are a better team when both QBs play. Looks like both don't feel "pressured" and play loose. Relf just doesn't provide enough accuracy to keep him out there the whole game. What they did Saturday is harder to prepare for, so I'm thinking we'll do that the rest of the year. I'm also glad to see some talent going after the ball- where has that been?

I think it'll keep UT Martin's, Arkansas's, and Ole Miss's defense off balance. I'm not sure it'll have any affect on Bama.

for the USC game, but Relf didn't take a snap. Makes me think he was banged up or something.

I like Relf in GOAL TO GOAL situations (not redzone), and letting him run every other drive or so. Roughly 60/40.

used Relf. He became a weapon instead of a hinderence. Keep the defense guessing. I also noticed at first we were running with Tyler and throwing with Relf and then he switched it on them and it 17ed up UK bad.

against the remaining SEC opponents .... Relf should be used in situations just like Russell is better in certain situations .... play both of them to their strengths and see where it goes ... however, I think Relf has the advantage in the red zone and would not sit him while we are that close to scoring

If we get backed up or start inside our own 20 and inside the red zone. Outside of that let Russell take us down the field.

and couldn't watch the game but was keeping up on my phone and noticed the updates saying they were rotating qbs. I really want to see the game just to see how the offense performed under this. Does anyone know if and when they will show the replay?

Unlike a lot of situational quarter backs, Relf can actually throw the ball. IMO, the difference this year is the running game. Last year opposing defenses had to respect the run which opened up the down field pass, not so much this year. When he rotates in now, you would think the defense would have to key the run, but they really can't. I am typically not a big fan of the 2 QB system, but I think this actually has a chance to throw off some of the non Alabama defenses we have left.

I like what Relf did inside the 10. He threw a few good passes, too, which shocked me. I like this new plan. He is still Relf, though and sometimes tries to do too much.

Also I have no idea what they are seeing in practice. They may have been doing this in practice for weeks now. I still wonder if Relf was hurt and is just coming back to strength. It would be just like Mullen to keep it a secret if Relf was hurt.

Also it is Relf's senior year. Nobody deserves, but it is a shame not to play him if he can play better that the second guy and at times, he absolutely does.

Also Tyler needs QB time. Barring things I don't see. he is the guy next year, and likely the year after that. We need him to get really good and better still over the next 30 games.

All of this makes sense to me, but I am hindered with oldfartedness

I do know that most of all, we need to win two more games. I'm sending all of mt daydreaming time hoping that the SEC west fluke/blunder this year (there really havn't been any) will be us beating Arky in LR. That would give us three and shut up the "FlagShip" guys for at least 10 minutes.

Russell did a great job moving the offense down the field and Relf performs best in the red zone.

I like having Russell start the drive and let Relf take over in the red zone. Kind of sucks for Russell, though - he won't be credited for many TD's.

I'm fine with what they did this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised that Relf was allowed to throw as much as he did. You aren't fooling anyone if you put him in there solely to run the option. I also like how they mixed it up even in the redzone. We don't need to automatically just put Relf in when the ball is inside the 20s because that TD pass to 80 doesn't happen if Relf is the one throwing it.

I really think Relf was banged up.
I really think Relf is the better qb when he doesn't have the option to check down to another play (like last year). Tell him what to do and do it. He doesn't need to be in Mullens graduate school, anymore.
I really think Relf will be fresher and more effective on short yardage and goal line... if he doesn't have to get the first 8 yards or down the field

I like Russell more and more.
He still needs more time to develop, along with playing, though
For some reason I think Russell is faster than relf now running the qb read.
If Russell loves getting hit he could turn out to be better than I thought.

I don't know that i would alternate series, but I would allow Relf to run some of the series... maybe a 2 russell to 1 relf, with relf playing all downs less than 2 or goal to go of russells drives... we don't have to get russell situations of goals to go this year, we have an offseason ...we need to utilize ballard and reld in goals to go.

It's certainly harder for the other team to game plan as long as Russell does some running and Relf does some passing to throw the other team off.

I dont think it will make a difference against Bama
Our defense will have to be the one to beat Arkansas if we do.

Ole Miss is going to be a trial for us. I've watched them stack the box and hold off Arkansas and Auburn for 2 quarters and they will do it to us as well unless we mix it up .

I'm thinking that we are going to struggle in the Egg bowl far more than we are expecting. That said, the 2 qb system is going to be key from here on out.

If we dont get the turnover thing fixed by Arkansas game, we could be staring at no bowl and that would hurt us as we need Russell to get that extra month of practice PLUS we need to be able to recruit with kids seeing how we will go more to an air attack next year.

plays?

Putthem both back there several plays a game and the Defense wouldn't know who the ball is being snapped too. Relf and Russell are both so damn big that either of them could just simply block for whoever gets the ball if it is a pass play. Snap it to Relf and let him throw it in the flat. Snap it to Russell and let him throw it deep. Snap it to Relf and let him run it up the gut. Snap it to Russell and let him pitch to Relf with a head full of steam. There are a lot of options and I don't think this would simply be "gadget" type plays (damn it I hate that phrase still) because both are athletic enough to do multiple things from this set up. The confusion of both guys being in the backfield and then running our normal plays from this set up would be interesting to watch. The defense might expecting some sort of flicker or double pass and back off a bit.

I just hate seeing one of our bigger and more talented weapons on offense standing on the side line (especially Relf because of running ability).

I am not suggesting this become our main set up but it could be brought in on mid range third down plays to confuse the hell out of the defense.

He jsut doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who takes advice from anyone (other then Miz Mullen).

I often allowmy wife tell me what to do, so I can live with that. Some women (my wife) are very smart. I have a feeling Miz Mullen is one of them, too.

Maybe She will read this and tell him he needs to let the board help.

I guess you're right.

More of an incentive for him to go deep and be accurate when going deep.

is that Mullen takes his wife seriously. She told him to come to Starkville, or at least that it was OK. Thank you Miz Mullen for that advice that he took.

When asked, he always says that she likes Starkville. Most men with any love for their wife would not stay long where she is unhappy.

My wife is my best friend, and IMO she likely is smarter (grades way back when, degrees attained, Career achievement, Goals she has set and met and how much pleasure I get when I am with her). In a fight, I would chose her to take my back before anyone I know. If my safety were at stake, she would kill with no hesitation. I am confident of everything I have stated here.

Why would I not let her give me advice and then take it.

Whenever I select something different from her choice when we eat out I invariably regret it when the food comes. When we go out I always say "I'm driving, you choose." Pisses her off tremendously, but she always makes the best choice.

Sorry if that upsets you. Come by soemtime and I'll have her beat the crap out of you (in scrabble).

He has half a bozillion posts and owns the place. I have read his stuff (and the General's when he was still here) since day one.

I thought the humor in my reply was also somewhat obvious, but if it wasn't, than I'm sorry you didn't read it that way, becaus eit still was. Do I need to go back and edit it with a few ****s?

Relf adds a little more to running game if he plays like he did against Auburn & Ky. He can actually throw the ball on a roll-out. He's awful in a straight drop back where he's forced to read the defense. He can react on the run, but he doesn't need to be in a situation where he has to think too much.
Russell is the guy for the long-term. He can both run and pass - on the rollout and as a pure drop back passer.
