Ernie Kent is probably going to get canned at Oregon. For all the discussion about Stansbury, Kent has some similarities in tenure and levels of success. Stans is a little more consistent, particularly in conference play I think, but Kent has two Elite Eight trips. He's been to five NCAAs in 12 years and has three first round losses to go with those two Elite Eights. Top four in the PAC-10 four times (equivalent of being first or second in the West and getting a bye) with one overall championship This year Oregon bottomed out at 8-22, 2-14 in PAC 10 play.

1997-98 Oregon 13-14 .481 8-10 (5th, Tie)
1998-99 Oregon 19-13 .594 8-10 (5th, Tie) NIT Final Four
1999-00 Oregon 22- 8 .733 13-5 (3rd) NCAA 1st Round
2000-01 Oregon 14-14 .500 5-13 (6th, Tie)
2001-02 Oregon 26- 9 .758 14-4 (1st) NCAA Elite Eight
2002-03 Oregon 23-10 .697 10-8 (5th) NCAA 1st Round
2003-04 Oregon 18-13 .581 9-9 (4th, Tie) NIT Final Four
2004-05 Oregon 14-13 .519 6-12 (8th, Tie)
2005-06 Oregon 15-18 .455 7-11 (7th)
2006-07 Oregon 29-8 .800 11-7 (3rd, Tie) NCAA Elite Eight
2007-08 Oregon 18-14 .563 9-9 (5th, Tie) NCAA 1st Round
2008-09 Oregon 8-23 .258 2-14 (10th)
Oregon totals (12 yrs) 219-157 .582 102-112 (.477)

So Bulldogs, coming off a horrible season like that, but after two straight NCAA trips one of which was an Elite Eight team thatI think lost to Florida perhaps (?), would you dump Kent now? They also have a new arena opening next year I believe.

Only two seniors on the squad. One never plays and the other gets about 15 minutes a night and averages 3 and 2.

...he'd get one more year. I'm a little surprised at Oregon's two consecutive seasons of non-postseason appearances in 2004-05 and 2005-06. How much trouble was he in then? That second Elite Eight year had to have saved his career there.

Just looking at his record alone, he deserves that. If there are off the court issues then my opinion might change.

Of course, he did lose to Stansbury in the tournament last year, so he might just be a horrible coach.

The minute I read the title of that post I started hearing the song from Team America...

<pre style="font-family: arial; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; font-size: 12px; line-height: normal; font-size-adjust: none; font-stretch: normal;"> What would you do If someone told you to fight for freedom. Would you answer the call Or run away like a little ***** 'Cause the only reason that you're here. Is 'cause folks died for you in the past So maybe now it's your turn To die kicking some *** [/code]Freedom costs a buck 'o five!

I'd have to know more about the circumstances behind the 8-23 record this year. That's beyond pathetic. It's one thing to miss postseason play by going 14-17, but quite another to miss it by going 8-23.
