Whatever happened to Michael Carr?

Sure would be nice to have had him as a deep threat this year, and into the future. Would have been a rising senior for us, and we wouldn't have to be looking in JUCO for an older receiver. I watched him play at West Point, and he made a number of plays for us in 2010 and 2011. Just curious

I seem to remember him leaving the team for "family reasons" or something like that. Don't remember a lot being said about it. Wish the guy the best of luck and hate that he wasn't able to continue playing football.

I don't know if this was just for the public statement to not make him sound like a loser or whatever, but I remember him saying something like "I don't love the game of football anymore" or something after he left the program this summer after leaving and coming back. The first time was cited for personal reasons/family matters.

Can't fault him for that if its true. Or if the family matters made him quit. Seemed like a good guy.

Have heard from some pretty reliable sources that they were some family issues that made football seem pretty trivial. Not going into details on a public forum but given the circumstances he did what he thought was best and wish nothing but the best for him in the future.

Talked to a buddy who knows Michael pretty well

Said that he was supposedly meeting with Mullen at the beginning of this week. Said that Carr wants back in. I asked about what had happened and got a "lets just say (former player) got him into some bad situations".

Take it for what it's worth, just relaying what I was told.

we are hurting next year for WRs with good athletic ability. Big blow when GA took Rumph from us.

Hey, if Ole Miss can get Brassell back in we can get Carr. They are actually comparable talents too, many don't realize how good Carr was. Pretty obvious he had some off the field distractions working in the background.

I'd love to have him back.

I heard the same stuff others have said. Football shouldn't have been important to him with everything going on.

He might have had some family issues or whatever but he def did not like Mirando. Remember that he quit twice. With a new WR coach he may want to return but we don't have a scholly for him. It's probably walk on or bust...

Does he have 2 years to play 2? Or 3 to play 2 since he didn't redshirt. I am not familiar with how a "leave of absence" might work in this situation...

Ricco is still here.....

But he's a gigantic bust. No chance of him having any sort of impact on the depth chart next season. The guys that need to be our playmakers next season are pretty obvious: Malcolm, RoJo, and Tubby. We also need Morrow to step up, but I won't hold my breath on him.

Mirando cannot write prescriptions- so no, he had nothing to do with his problems nor his solutions

Coach34- I know you have a handle on this but all I said is that they didnt get along. That is a fact. Unless you have been to practices in person and seen this first hand, you cant disagree, you wouldnt.. If he got problem xyz stabilized I could see him wanting to come back and play for a different guy. Thats all I said in my post. A lot of time people with problem xyz get back on the right foot and want a fresh start.

sounds like mirando was all-around dumb move by mullen.

Railin Jemmye- I agree with this but not b/c of Carr. Hiring Mirando was a thumb in the eye to Hud on his way out. Then Mullen put a rookie coach in the dirtiest recruiting town there is. He got caught up in some minor mess and now he will never be able to get a coaching job again. Mullen really put him in a situation to fail. If Mullen would have reshuffled the coaches areas and perhaps put Melvin or Les in Memphis, the board would have been a lot more boring in August which would have been a good thing

Carr is not a bad kid at all and hopefully he has gotten some things straightened out. I'd love to give him a 2nd chance if he is up for it. My point was that his own personal problems were may more of a factor than anything taking place with Mirando.

Also good point about Mullen having Mirando recruiting the Memphis area. Huge mistake there. Agree 100%

I hope our staff does give him another chance, though it'd be #3 at this point. They gotta handle this carefully because letting a guy who has quit twice back on the team could possibly send a bad message.

You right Coach

Mirando cannot write prescriptions- so no, he had nothing to do with his problems nor his solutions

Position coaches have no knowledge of what's going on in players lives off the field. Nor does somebody whose 5 mins. older than the player have the answers - much less the right prescription.
