I don't expect us to beat Tennessee, but if we can be competitive and hang in there through three quarters, I will be happy. Lebby inherited an absolute disaster, and if we can be competitive with Tennessee, it's another sign that lets us know he is getting it turned around.

I'll be excited to watch the game, and I'll enjoy the build up to it. It'll be nice to watch State play in a SEC game that feels like they have half a chance to win. All that to say I don't think the Dawgs can pull off a victory though.

I'm not worried at all about tomorrow. We'll win comfortable.
...but surely you can understand the trepidation.

This is not Alcorn. It's a team that won at ND last year. They have shown they're worse this year, yes, but with us at 3-0 and riding high after the past two weeks, and with the poison ash of Toledo burning us down last year, I have to admit I'm a bit concerned. Don't like feeling this way, but 50 years of Statefandom will do that to a person.

Surely we will take care of business... surely.

If I had to make a single score prediction for tomorrow, I’d say something like 27-13 win for us. Earlier this week thought total would be higher but not feeling as strong about that given NIUs time of possession. It’s the chance of us shitting the bed that I’m worried about, which I have at like 20%. Maybe it’s lower, sure hope so

I’ll be pretty excited next week, assuming we take care of business tomorrow. We may not be able to stand toe-to-toe with TN on paper, but I believe they’ll get our best shot on the field.

Regardless of the outcome, it’ll be nice for talking heads to talk about us for ant least 30 seconds again. Sucks when they automatically assume we’ll be an easy W for our opponent and not even break down our game.

I doubt the team is thinking about Tennessee. The way we took care of Alcorn gives me hope that Lebby knows how to keep the team focused on each game.
This is why tomorrow is such a big game to me. If we come out and look prepared, focused, and pretty much control the game -- my opinion of Lebby and his coaching is going to skyrocket. Good coaches don't overlook these teams, they have their own team ready. That's going to tell me a lot.

Then my excitement for UT will be at an 11, because I know it's not the same ol same ol we've been seeing. No matter what happens in that game, the upward trajectory that I think I am seeing will be confirmed (for me) - or not - tomorrow.

To me, with the Tennessee game I think a key point is that we don’t have to win for it to still potentially be a huge step forward and a positive data point. Of course, it could also be a huge negative data point if we just look clueless for 60 min.

A 7-10 point game with heading into the 4th, with no boneheaded mistakes or instances of undiscipline beforehand would be pretty nice to see.

If we enter that game 4-0 (which I expect but won’t assume), I’ll be a nervous wreck by the Tennessee game.
I’ll enter the week pretty laid back, not expecting anything but hopeful. By Friday I’ll have shifted to “I think we’re going to do it” and then Saturday, it’s just all nerves.

It’s nice to play games that feel meaningful again. It’s also nice that there’s *much* more demand for tickets.

Agree. Not a whole lot you can take away from that game. But the team came out focused and aggressive in that first quarter and put that one away early.

In the two games NIU have played They have scored 3 TDs… and one was a ST TD…. They have played Holy Cross and a terrible Maryland team

Hey, that's good news. I hope they prove me completely and totally wrong and stupid for even considering that a lowly team could pop up and bite us when we are overlooking them.

I really do hope that. I would in fact bet money that we win this game tomorrow. Just not all my money.

Tennessee is talented but let’s not act like they are world beaters. Statistically they are one of the worst defenses in the conference currently.

Damn y'all are some downers. Just enjoy it. It feels good to have a big SEC game in Starkville again.
I'm definitely a downer. I'm excited to not completely suck and I'll be happy if we're competitive and they don't run over us like ASU did for much of the second half. But I'll actually be more excited about the Ark, UM, UF, and Mizzou games as they will tell us whether we have a successful season or not.
