After letting the loss on Saturday fade away and being able to think clearer, I think more than ever this staff, team and program need even more support than we've given them. Have got to turn around this negative attitude around the program right now.
I feel as if people are actually wanting Stoops to fail now. What good does that do us? To go after the next hot coach? Meanwhile we start back at the beginning in a never ending series of rebuilds. We all need to HOPE and PRAY that Stoops can move this program forward. They need the support now more than ever.
I feel the exact same way. We just gotta be patient, I know that urks alot of people but we just can't keep bringing in coaches, giving them 2 or 3 years and starting back over again. I think we are seeing the results of that after Joker Phillips replaced Brooks. Stoops comes from a football family. There's no way in hell that he doesnt know the game. I believe this year for him was akin to the 2013 season we suffered in basketball. I am sure he learned alot over the course of this season and probably realized that some of the guys on this team are really not full on board. All these negative vibes do nothing but tear the program down a bit more. We had a class last year that fell apart at the end. We desperately need to hold this group together. Whether he replaces some staff or loses one or two to greener pastures, that's life. We deal with it and keep moving forward. Looking at the programs in the SEC, one thing is clear. The winners all have massive lineman, many from the luxury of being able to redshirt. We are not there yet with our redshirt program, no way we could be with the low budget talent we had before CMS got here. Another thing is leadership. It is imperative for some of the elder statesmen on this team to take a leadership role. Jason Hatcher, Denzil Ware, Chris Westry, Matt Elam, Mykhal Edwards, these are talented guys we have on defense. We need down linemen to step in and take over. Our OL will be much improved next year with the signing of Jackson and Young. Kash Daniels may need to play next year, he certainly has the size. Barker, Kemp, Conrad, Boom, Baker, Johnson and Badet are super offensive players. Theres talent on this team. It just needs to be harnessed and driven in the same direction at once. What's next year bring? Hopefully a team that has learned valuable lessons, a staff that has learned and improved, and I hope a fan base that once everything settles in will come back and support these guys as we keep climbing the ladder. I don't remember anyone saying at the press conference that this would be an easy fix. I think the program has made great strides with the stadium upgrades and the new state of the art football center is second to none. Guys, all we want is a winning program that plays hard every down and gets every ounce of effort game after game. I have to believe that its closer than some think.
Program is going through growing pains and if we just give up we're starting right back where we were. Gotta continue to recruit and bring in some fresh blood in the assistants. And that requires the fans to give this just a bit more time. Next year will tell us where this thing is going for sure. It will either improve or get alot worse. Either way, we'll have given it a good amount of time to see whether Stoops can get the job done. I'm still rooting for him to do it. He's an intelligent coach and had a plan that now needs some revising.
