I don't, but Mullen had a great story about Whitley this summer. He said that they found out Whitley needed knee surgery after the Kentucky game last year, and they said "okay, hate your Sr has to end like this, but if you have the surgery now, you'll likely be healthy enough to workout for the draft/proday etc." and Whitley told them to wait on it. He really sacrificed his draft potential to help the team reach bowl eligibility, and ultimately strip Bo in the Egg Bowl.
Again, I am so grateful he decided to stay and help the team and it was a selfless decision to play on, was entirely his and I respect the choice he made. But just being devil's advocate for a moment. If he were your son and you thought that this decision would likely affect his draft position and cost him some up front $$ in his pro career what would you advise him to do?
How high was his draft position do you think if he had stopped the season there? Was he clearly going pro?
I really want Nickeo Whitley to do well at whatever he wants to do, but if you're marginal for ever having a pro-career (and I really do mean IF since I had no idea what a healthy Nickeo's draft would have looked like), hanging around and playing a decisive role in a big game against your rival at the highest level that you're actually going to play seems like a pretty good call.
If the surgery did return him to top form, shouldn't he be able to get picked up by one of the teams that would have looked at drafting him?
I'm not sure many teams would take the chance of drafting him. He's been injured a lot - had either a knee or shoulder injury (don't remember which) in highschool that caused him to miss most of his senior season. Then his achilles as a sophomore and knee as a senior. And you know he had to have a couple of concussions with the way he played his first two years.
It's probably best for his long term health that he doesn't play in the NFL.
